Good information. It obviously has changed since 2007 when I passed my R32. I just went through a bunch of photos and I indeed see some newer import R32 with separate amber side markers on the front. Physically they should pass based on the description in the guidelines, but guess not according to the inspectors.

Also bnrnissan please post the results of the CVSE visit when it happens.

The reason is the corner lights have no reflectors in them. The stick on reflectors from Princess Auto are fine, they have a DOT # embossed on them, passed two vehicles with them so far.

And you can use the front turn signal on the R32 for the side marker. It has 2 bulbs in it, use one for the marker (rear) and the other for the signal. I just tied the rear into the feed for the little running lights in the headlamps.

Well got the news today, car failed. What a surprise!

Here is what they failed me for, a few of which is total BS! :
        Muffler isn't baffled
        Headlight mounts aren't strong enough
        No front reflectors
No front running lights (corner lights)
        No Neutral safety switch
        Exposed electrical connections PF Headlight

The neutral safety switch is bull $hit, and I know it. Im trying to find a government link right now saying if it didnt come OEM then I dont need one, If anyone has that info or link that'd be great. The corner lights i can wire to be on as running lights, and just have the forward most bulb flash when the turn signal is flicked on. Clean up some wiring. Stick on orange reflectors on the front are no biggie, and the muffler I will have to take to a shop for the adapters and what not.

That neutral safety switch though. What an a$$hole. Kinda bummed out, more work Very frustrating. Not going to be on the road for at least another few weeks, or longer.

You are correct...if the vehicle never came with a neutral safety swt you do not have to retro-fit. If it did and does not work then....well...duh. The CVSE guy should have known that, there is obviously an agenda going on here.

Out of curiosity, what did you make your headlight bracket out of and how did you construct it? Post pics if you can so if anything I know what to avoid

Front reflectors were talked about a couple posts ago but too late to help you out I guess.

              1) Call the Alberta Transportation Inspection Program 780-427-8901, tell them your vehicle make, model and year and verify to see if there was ever a factory Neutral Safety Switch included.

              2) If they can confirm that there was none (which they will) they will ask the name of the inspection agency that conducted the inspection on your vehicle.

              3) They will call the agency right away and update them with the good news that "no you do not need one since it is not OEM" and tell them to pass your vehicle since they have failed you for invalid reasoning, judging that all other tests are satisfactory.

In addition to doing this, if you really are bitter (which I would be), file a complaint against the CVSE guy that failed your car with one of the reasons being invalid. They call them professionals yet fail to operate in a professional manner.

Glad you asked about the headlight brackets, I made them out of sheet metal. Each bracket is adjustable forwards and backwards, up and down, there are 2 brackets per headlight. Tapped threaded holes into the lights, everything is bolted and welded together, with nuts you loosen to adjust. Hard to imagine, I will post pics when I have the car back from the shop. Very upset about the brackets, each side took me 5-6 hours to fabricate, making sure they slide and adjust properly, cutting, welding, tapping holes, shaping, more welding, grinding, ALOT of work...AND THIS GUY STILL FAILS THEM.... WTFFFFF He wants them REALLY SOLID. Which is going to be really difficult. They're solid as ****, and theres just a tiny bit of wiggle. I will have to make some more braces out of metal or something, I have no idea. So pissed about the lights.

                Ill post pics tomorrow hopefully

If Im calling the alberta Transport Inspection Program, arent they going to say : "Oh well youre in BC, rules are different" ?

Just ask them if your model has a neutral safety switch. If they verify there is none, then you can say that since the car did not come factory stock with the switch, it is not necessary for the owner to fit a switch for OOP.

Assuming they have data on Skylines. I'd call the BC MoT instead anyway, but that should be obvious

That is basically the approach I was going to take. 1/4 inch steel or something, cut and weld it together. I suspect the strength/rigidity problem lies with 2 brackets per light... I was planning to have each bracket being a single piece. However I haven't spent the time under the hood yet with the stock lights out to determine what is possible.

I will post pics as soon as I get the chance, You can use my design if you like, or make your own variation. The way I set it up, very adjustable for aiming.

Would love to see it for inspiration. I was planning on posting my finished R34 bracket as well when I have a chance... lets open-source OOP compliance parts

I agree, Having gone through this whole DOT process, and experiencing first hand what it takes to get a skyline anywhere close to passing, has been eye opening. I thought it would be easy, and I was wrong. I want future skyline owners that have to go through this compliance process to have some guidelines, or someone could start making kits available for mounting accord headlights, part numbers of things you'll need, and there is already tons of that stuff on here, but everytime another person goes through that process, they make/find there own ways of doing things, and sometimes come up with really good ideas that should be shared ! Making everyones life easier!

So great to have all of the support from you guys here on GTRC, thank you for everyone that has left input on this thread, all much appreciated I will update a few things and hopefully add a few pictures in the coming days and weeks, and hopefully have my Skyline pass through all the hoops!

Could you take pictures of your rear side markers as well?

I wonder if someone has found a way to pass the OOP without drilling holes into the car to add the rear side markers.

Just use stick-ons, you can get them at Crappy Tire or Princess Auto.
