Well, I run a stereo shop, so I'll put my 2 cents in here....

If any of my staff borrowed a customer's car, even with permission, they're packing their tools and looking for a new job. There was no way the guy thought it would be okay.... Unless his boss is a complete tool, and that would just compound the problem. Furthermore, I find it difficult to belive that the shop manager hasn't already had a bird over this. Find a new shop, first off!!!! While a vehicle is in my possesion, it's my responsibility to make sure that nothing like this happens.... What if there had been an accident? Even if it was completely the other party's fault, you're still screwed.

Nail them to the wall, man, IMHO I'd say you're about to be screwed!!!

Doesnt matter if he admits to it??? because it wasnt a cautionary statement?!

what the?! thats straight out theft. what the hell are the police talking about? so i can walk up to any car, steal it, drive around, then return it and get off without any problems? thats f*&ked. I'd go back and demand to talk to the chief of that station, that is ridiculous.

as for the shop, I'd be asking for a lot of compensation, for gas, km's etc. and report them to BB or whoever as well.

damn i'm so mad and its not even my car.

so why did the kid tell you this? he really must be stupid. no one knew right?

The thing with the cops is, they need proof... not just his word he did it... like murders (they said) you can say you killed 50 people!!! but in order to charge you they have to be able to prove you killed the 50 people...

                ^^^People have fingerprints...

I have a zero tolerance for **** like this. His actions has consequences. Simple.

If I were you and the cops don't do anything about this, I'd be super anal about it. Get him fired, make the shop pay for any gas, and compensate for the mileage put on the vehicle. Go over your car with a fine tooth comb and make sure there aren't any damage or noticed wear from his "joy ride." Make them pay for everything to make your car seem like there was no balls to the wall road trip to Calgary and back. If you don't get your way, make yourself heard. Be the "spoiled brat" in their eyes. It might not be easy, but you will get your way.

If he has $600 to pay you for 600kms, do you really think he had no other way to go than in your car?

I really don't think there is too much legal action that you can take that would be worth any while.. just try to get what you can out of the company and walk away from the matter.

Our legal system is fairly useless...

That's gotta be grounds to go postal.

I'd take everything you could get out of them, and also tell them they are paying for the most anal inspection you can get on a car. Leakdowns, inspect the turbo's etc, and then sue them for anything that's isn't up to spec.

                      That screams joyride.

Seriously talk to a lawyer ...

I would never ever leave my car at a shop unattended. Thanks for reminding me why.

This thing happened to my mom a few years ago, didnt happen at a shop but similar in a sense. my cousin was living at my house, took my moms mustang in the middle of november and hit a pole with it. they couldnt charge him with theft because there was no forced entry into the car and the ignition wasnt punched or hot wired and what not. they could onlycharge him with taking the car without permission becuase he had the keys to the car. and someone mentioned something about figner prints, the amount it costs to do finger printing is way to much to do something like that, plus itd be pointless on somehting like this plus its very unlikey they will find fingerprints. also the kid wouldnt have any finger prints on reacord unless he was arrested before.

                              Someone mentioned something good earlier.

Take the car and have it completely inspected...every nook and cranny.
                              -Charge the kid for this.

Have the locks and anything he might have "touched" changed.
                              -Charge the kid for this.

Take the $600 for the 600KM.

                              Take the newer alarm.

Never go to this shop again.

Tell everyone about it...power of word is powerful.

That's all you really can do.

I'd be livid...but I mean unfortuantely we're at the mercy of ppl.

Could I ask what shop this is?

If you're not for telling us in the public, could I get a PM?

For fair warning for all of us naturally....
