  • I just read this for the first time too. I was talking to a friend of mine last week about a similar story (in vancouver) her friend had a GTS-T that had some minor body damage, and one of the mechanics at the shop took it for a joy ride and wrote it off...

Anyone know the person she was talking about- or heard this story before?

And to the OP- unfortunately you're in a tough spot legally. I'm pretty sure shops are allowed to drive the vehicle they're working on, and they could make up all kinds of BS to justify the KM. Surely the kid would get fired over it, but the shop can probably fight off any claims unless you can prove they did damage to your vehicle, or removed parts, etc in the process. Also, if you threaten them with BBB or going public they could use that against you in court- so you would have to be very careful how you word things. It's often better to just do it, and let them react accordingly- making empty threats will usually just get you in more trouble.

I had a shop take parts off my car and try to BS me about it, but theres really no point taking legal action, you can get your money back in other ways...

Edit add: I love the kids BS excuse too lol, he was obviously using it to show off and joyride.

    • Another great reason as to why I don't let anyone work on my car. Especially if I was overseas.

Well ya I guess, but like I wouldn't feel comfortable with a BIG shop handling my car. Ztune is like 3 or 4 guys? Plus they own cars like ours and specialize in them but as for someone like canadian tire or whatnot, I don't think so.

Hell, there was a carwash fundraiser at a church that I was driving by one day and the chick asked if I wanted my car washed and I replied, "Sorry, I don't let anyone touch my car." And I sped off.

          • Holy hell...this is EPIC...and I thought the people who attempted to install my swap were a joke for returning me a car with a half-assed swapped 6-cylinder engine barely limping (wouldn't idle by itself for the world) on 5 cylinders. Oh and get this, a wire that was serving as a ground was making contact with a constant alternator power line...that was a MAAAAD fire hazard! I ended up redoing my whole wiring harness that winter in the freezing cold btw...and replacing a mountain of parts which they somehow failed to see were dysfunctional. I feel your pain dude. The owner of the shop that butchered my swap is lucky that he got caught for parting out cars that weren't even his on his own premises before I was able to take him to court. There are waaaaaaaaay too many shady shops out there IMO, that's why after that, the only person who has done ANY work to me car....is me and I don't think it could be running or performing any better than it is (took a hell of a long time, but I did it).

I know your pain dude, sue them while you can! After this, trust no one, I've heard only good things about Mike & Z-Tune so if you need a shop, go to him. Other than that, take matters into your own hands, I know I have the most peace of mind knowing that I do the work myself and that it's done right. Again, sue while you can, you absolutely will not regret it.

im with arc240 ill do the work myself on my car, its to expensive elsewere.

but i would trust a few shops. autodream is a very reputable place and knowledgeable.

sorry on your luck though, that is like him taking a spin with your girlfriend, some people just dont understand what cars mean to some people.

he obviously wanted to drive it, im sure if he had a simular car he wouldnt have bothered.

                            • The case was settled outside of court. The car was then worked on at subracing where it wasn't completed due to the shop going out of business (i was working there at the time). Then crzyone traded cars with the owner and put a b324r kit on it.
