    Oh well. It isn't OEM, it's NTK.

    Hopefully I can get this stupid stuck O2 sensor out first.
    Let me know how it goes, because as of tonight at midnight my cars insurance will have expired and it'll just be sitting until I decide to take it through aircare again, unless I get the 3 months insurance, but I wont be doing that till I know it can pass aircare.

        It's O2 sensor.

        I finally got it off. Man that was tough...

        Took the entire downpipe/turbo elbow off then vise gripped the stripped nut, turned the exhaust pipe around. Voilla.

        After a test drive, my car DOES NOT backfire as bad it used to, and it pulls so much better! (Plus my exhaust fumes smell less )

        I'll keep you updated after I go for Aircare. Round 5.

          I'm going to stop by lordco on my way home today from my outing... It's only a couple blocks away .

          I have a feeling that might be what is causing some of my idle issues too. So I'm feeling optimistic that this one sensor can solve all my problems.

            Changed my O2 sensor to a brand new NTK one on saturday... took the car for aircare today and still failed.

            Hydrocarbons reading was WORSE than before I replaced the O2 sensor by about 0.10

            Mind you I was running 92 instead of 94 because I needed gas bad and the Chevron's system was down so I had to use 'Super Save' gas, but it can't make it that much worse can it?

              Try adding some methyl hydrate to your tank.

                So to follow up.

                I found out WHY my car was failing hydrocarbons.

                ... after spending hours under my car, hours infront of the car while idling, hours infront of the car while off, hours driving, over 7 attempts at aircare FAILING.

                #1. My car was tuned richer than stock (I guess the previous JDM owner knew his **** and made sure it never leaned out

                #2. I should have tried lower octane gas but it has to be good stuff like Mohawk(apparently cleaner?)

                #3. More methyl hydrate!!

                #4. I had a bad boost leak, making my already rich tune richer. I have no vacuum leak, but boost leak FOR sure. I fixed it, and now car doesn't backfire as it used to.

                #5. I lucked out at aircare with a person that figured out NOT to stall my car on the dyno and stopped missing gears.

                #6. I replaced my O2 sensor, then a few weeks later before the aircare I cleaned off any carbon residue on the sensor for a good measure.

                whew. I don't have to deal with this for 2 more years now.

                I hope these information above help any of you who have any problems with our cars not passing air care in terms of hydrocarbons. With a working cat, your CO and NOx should be guaranteed to pass.

                  mine fail with these readings:
                  HC(0.5000)allowable } my reading : 0.7972 FAIL
                  CO(9.3200)allowable} my reading : 5.6876 PASS
                  NOx(1.2400)allowable } my reading : 1.3607 FAIL

                  Im goin to clean my plugs and regap to .9
                  clean O2 sensor , use seafoam 1/3 of can to engine ,1/3 to oil then go for a good spirited drive for 15 mins. then use the 1/3 of a can into my gas (using 91 octane ) . then do oil change . then a long drive to abbotsford aircare center . And hopefully pass this stupid aircare.
                  Ill let you guys know my results tommorow

                    GOOD FOR 2 YEARS NOW
                    I passed with these readings
                    HC = 0.3592
                    CO = 2.8662
                    NOx = 0.9246
                    SEA FOAM really works

                          Anyways, been super lazy to take my car back to aircare after my coolant leak incident, but i guess it saved me from taking it back not realizing that i had no cat converter lol. Website states that all 92+ must have a catalytic converter. Im currently running with a dmax cat delete dp and greddy cat back. Well my question is, have any of you passed without a catalytic converter? or does this mean i have to source out a stock exhaust system w/ cat converter to pass air care?

                          thanks,

                            to make it easy to pass, you'll need a cat.

                              a cat won't do jack unless you have a properly tuned engine,,, trust me I went through that excercise,

                                yeah but having a cat is also going to make his life easier @ passing the test.
