  • Any coilover for 1100$ used or new.

Because I'm on a STUDENT BUILD, I don't have lot of money to put on a coilover set because I know I have to keep some money for installation and aligment too. Currenctly, I only have SPRING with stock coilover.

What I want: Need to be street-friendly.But good feedback when cornering. I would prefer something that would be easy to adjust/lower.

I was also considering the TEIN EDFC so I could adjust it from my cockpit.( But I know this setup would cost me 2000...)

Short story: Please throw me some brand/model that could fit my budget and my need. Thank!!!

EDFC is a waste of money IMO.
When you dial in the car, how often are you REALLY going to change it.
Just search around the marketplace for a good name but used, I think that would be a better bet than a new set of a lesser brand.

I agree. I only adjust my coilovers when I go to the track. I never adjsut them any other time because there is no need to.

That why i asked what brand and model should I look for? There's a couple place to look for used but I need to know what i should search for

Also, Can you please tell me how much time/hard does it take to adjust a coilover? Let say I go to a show, I would like to have my car lowered, same for track time.

Also, beside the Coilover, Should I upgrade more parts too?

Be aware with coilovers, that they need to be corner weighted to be setup properly.

If on a budget and you have springs, get a set of Monotube circlip adjustable (in 10mm increments) Bilstein shocks from Bilstein Japan. From what I understand, the Bilstein shocks self adjust damping, rebound to road conditions. Also don't need to be corner weighted.

You can find Bilstein's secondhand and get them rebuilt (match to the springs you have and around $100 or less per shock for rebuild if shaft's are in good condition) and get shock body repainted (DIY or by a panelbeater), so it looks like new and performs like a new shock.

In some cases (if you find a good set of Bilstein's with springs) you don't need to rebuild them. They last around 150,000km between rebuilds. Also they can be upgraded (revalved) to racespec later on if you decide to upgrade springs. I think you can add remote resouvoirs, etc to shock body.

Daryl should be able get a set of Bilstein's from Upgarage, Yahoo Auctions, Bilstein Japan. Part numbers should be on Bilstein Australia website (catalogue).

I have to disagree with this statement. Yes, maybe if you are a hardcore racer you may want to corner balance your car, but for the average street/circuit user it is not necessary, and complete overkill. Anyone can have coilovers installed on their car and have a car that handles well without being corner balanced.

Yes, we do sell Bilstein, as well as a wide variety of coilovers.

megan, ksport, and a few others have cheapish stuff. Ive heard good reviews for megan racing. I have a set of zeal coilovers for a GTS-t for 500 obo if you want. The fronts leak though.
Looking for cheap parts? supguyex (Jon) is parting out his car. Good prices, good guy.

Apexi, Cusco, HKS, Toda, Blitz, Buddy Club, Border Racing, Midori, Mines, Ohlins, RSR, Tein and Zeal all sell high quality coilovers.

In order to adjust the ride height it takes 30minutes to 1 hour to adjust all 4. You have to take the wheels off and manually adjust them. As for the dampening rate, it takes 2-4 minutes to do all 4.

Daryl, from what I understand not corner weighting coilovers can affect, oversteer, understeer when turning left or right, etc.

                      Corner weighting article -

Properly corner weighting your race car can allow you better handling to best the competition on track.

From what I have read elsewhere (not in above link), in some country's coilovers need to be inspected for road use due to understeer or oversteer problems, ride height.

Yes, perhaps corner balancing can affect oversteer and understeer, however it's to a very minimal degree. Street users probably won't even be able to notice a difference. Circuit users who are pushing the car to the absolute limit may be able to notice a difference.
As for coilovers needing to be inspected to for use, I have never heard of that. Most coilovers sold in Japan and North America are completely legal for street use.
Ride height issues would be a case-by-case issue during a vehicle inspection, it has nothing to do with the actual coilover.

I was reading on a website from NZ that adjustable height coilovers do require a certification before they can get a WOF (Warrent Of Fitness) -

The official website for for all modified vehicles in New Zealand - The Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association (LVVTA), .

I think it's under "Documentation" link.

Australia is worse than NZ when it comes to modifications.

Interesting I didn't know that about NZ. But it comes under the low volume clause, which doesn't apply to all vehicles I would presume, but would probably apply to Skylines.
I do know that in Japan and NA there are no issues with coilovers. Hell, companies even sell garbage coilover sleeves and they are road legal in NA.
I do assume that other countries do have other laws though pertaining to aftermarket suspension though.

TEIN, JIC, etc are junk. Don't buy garbage.

See if you can pick up a set of ohlins for $1100 used./ Or maybe go the stance route, they're not spectacular but for a budget coilover they aren't bad.
