  • Hawks HPS or HP+ ?

    Hello guys,

I'm wondering if I should get HPS or HP+ brake pad as the ultimate street pad.

Can HP+ works at 0 celcius ? If not, I guess I will be better with HPS for street.

Noise-wise, I think they are pretty much the same no?

CobrAA it's like you read my mind, I am also looking to try out some HP pads but am not sure which ones I need. My car never sees the track I just want to upgrade my pads (currently running genuine Nismo racing pads I ordered from japan) see to work really good but only once they really warm up

I have run Hawk pads before and i have to say they were some of the worst pads i have run, noisy all the time and didnt seem to stop any better then stock infact they felt worse then stock. i am not 100% sure what kind they were but i know they felt super low quality and will not run them again.

HPS are mainly street pads, they make a bit of noise and work at any low temperature, but are very limited at higher temps, so they really don't make good track pads since after 6-7 laps they'll start to overheat, fade and disentegrate, they brake better and have better bite than OEM pads, but not much

HP+ are trackable street pads, they make alot of noise (depending on your brale setup) and don't work at all below 30deg C
so you'll have to drive with a foot on the brakes evertime you set-off to heat them up so they'll work
they are respectable track pads, they can go over 400deg C before any fade occurs
they also make ALOT of brake dust, so everytime you drive/brake hard (track) you'll have to clean the dust from inside the wheels before it sticks
they bite much much better than OEMs
they brake better than HPS, but less than track pads (blue black NT#)

I have run both pads and personally prefer the HPS.

The HP+ I ran all year around on my Mazdaspeed 3 and never had problems even at -20. THey were phenominal on the track with great bite, and no fading. THe problem is they are noisy as hell. The noise is horrible no matter what the temperature of the pads.

The HPS I run on my GTR and althought they fade a little after 20 minutes of track abuse, they have way less dust, and have no noise problems. The initial bite i find just as good, and they are very progressive still.

At the end of they day as hardcore as I am, I cannot stand listening to that loud metal squealing everytime I step on the brake.

Sounds like my decision will be to stick to my Nismo pads, the don't make any noise and hardly any dust. My only issue was they take a bit to warm up but once they do they are awesome. And they are cheap to

cheap? how cheap we're talking ?

Last year, I had AMS street pad and I have no complaint about them seriously. But they don't fit my new brakes, anyone could compare the AMS pad to.... *insert another brake pad* ?

Check out EBC, been using them on every car I have with great results. Also used Alcon pads on my BBK the Supra came with, they were insane... didn't need to heat up, grabbed sooo hard and made no noise.

Not that my opinion matters but EBC is what I run(HCR) and have run(TSI AWD) for years and never had any problem other than choosing the wrong colour for the street. Great bite, No dust and no noise. And now they come with the shim glued on the pad as before you would have to add brake pad quite goop. I think EBC is from Great Britian.
I seen 2 sets of Hawk pads destroyed and awaiting refund at a Local parts guys shop. However Im not sure what the cause was, could've been un-pad related failure.

CobrAA I have the Nismo spec R pads, I believe they were only around $450 or $425 shipped to my house but they work awesome and no noise and no dust (none that I notice) there are a few difference options in the Nismo pads, I will try to find my invoice and find out where I bought them, I know that RHDjapan sells them but thinkthey are around $650 shipped
