  • OEM Electric Fan(s) Retrofit

Right now I am running a Greddy radiator and stock clutch fan. WIth the thicker radiator, it is nearly impossible to take off the shroud without taking off the fan first. AS a result, my shroud came out in 4 pieces due to frustration.

Anyway, I bought a Mishimoto R33 electric fan shroud, it looks nice and all but it is a single 14" fan and I later found it only pulled around 1400 cfm which is hopelessly inadequate.

Now I'm looking at OEM electric fans from other manufacturers as they usually put out way more air than aftermarket fans but am having trouble finding one that would fit in the narrow area between the engine and radiator (~3")

Is anyone running a retrofitted OEM electric fan setup in their Skyline?

I've heard WRX fans work well but can't confirm and don't have details. Might be worth some Googling.

Hmm I was really lookign for a fan/shroud assembly that roughly matched the RB26 radiator dimensions; the WRX fan looks like this

You had cooling issues with 1400cfm ? That's all i had cooling a big block Chevelle and it worked pretty good. Even in 35 deg heat.

The brand Billions makes some thin fans... and i think some people use nissan altima fans, but ive only heard of them on SR setups.

This is better (thicker blades, similar to stock engine fan) -

It's similar to N1 vs stock waterpump. Stock waterpump works best at lower rpm due to bigger blade design and N1 a higher rpm due to smaller blade design, which also helps to reduce cavitation (creation of bubbles that clog radiator tubes, water galleries, etc).

Engine fans work best at lower rpm, speed. At higher speed there should be enough air being pushed through radiator, etc, so engine fan is not really needed.

I havent had issues with the CFM yet as I havent installed it yet; I'm just going by internet fearmongering..Are you Mishimoto/SPAL guys then not overheating upon idling after spirited drives? And the Flexalite fans; would they fit in the R33 since the P/S line doesnt leave much room?

The ps lines interfere with the flexalite and koyo on an r32. I would overheat after 10 minute idles with dual 10" fans, no shroud, and the n1 pump.
