This ticket is often given to people doing burnouts.
          .
If you got unnecessary noise your hosed. They can give those out for no reason at all pretty much. But yeah check if it was a Highway Act ticket or a local act ticket, like Dark said that makes a big difference

Edit: and not to be a **** head but is a noise ticket even worth your time to fight? Doesn't affect premiums here in Alberta, only "dangerous tickets" do.

Just an OT clarification, but a police officer in Ontario and Quebec IS NOT required to show you the radar gun.

They usually do out of respect, but they could technically just say no and you dont have a say in this.

Odd. As far as I was aware, they did have to show you the radar gun? Hmm!

Also, in regards to excessive noise, found another vid of my friend's car.

Somehow, we didn't get pulled over with the car like this (it was so loud, we had to yell at each other in the car with the windows up. If he gave it a bit of gas, people on the street would jump/flinch). Vid was taken as we were taking it to the shop to get it fixed

What is the cost of the ticket aN4rk1? If it is low then I think Hozer has a point, it may not be worthwhile to fight based on the lost time from work and the risk that the cop decides to show up and possibly hits you with a careless/dangerous ticket. I would call your insurance broker (not the company) and check to see what your vulnerability is from a coverage standpoint.

It is also not a requirement to show you the reading in BC. Besides, what good does it do as it could be the locked reading from a speeder an hour prior.

you can go all out or you can just make a statement and take some pics

                        going all out:

if you can get access to a dB meter, try to find the testing guidelines for either

SAE J1492 Measurement of Light Vehicle Stationary Exhaust System Sound Level Engine Speed Sweep Method

                        or

SAE J1169 Measurement of Light Vehicle Exhaust Sound Level under Stationary Conditions

they are tricky to find, but at least one of those is somewhere online.

                        here is an example: http://www.unece.org/trans/doc/2007/...-45-inf01e.pdf

or you can ignore the actual test procedure and just use the dB meter to test it at 3 or 4 points around the car, and note the readings. if its anything under 90dB, you're laughing

when you do the reading, though, the engine should be at the RPM which constitutes 3/4 the RPM at which max hp is made (ie. if your max hp is made at 8,000rpm the test should be performed in neutral with the engine at 6,000 rpm)

or, just a statement and pics:

you could take photos of your exhaust system to illustrate that you have a fully working muffler, not rusted, no holes, etc

and state the following under oath:

your car is equipped with a muffler

the muffler is in good working order, not rusted, no holes

the muffler prevents excessive noise and excessive fumes

you did not, at any time, cause your vehicle to make excessive or unnecessary noise (ie did not race the motor nor squeal the tires)

                        good luck!

let us know how it goes

                          Hey, Any update dude?

I got pulled over last night and the officer left me with an unnecessary noise ticket (which is BS since I was pulling out of my parking spot when I spotted him and babied the **** out of her).

After a complete walk around/asked me to lift my hood etc, he gave me the unnecessary noise - I think he was just pissed he couldn't find anything else. He told me I have an illegal exhaust so he gave me a completely separate ticket......that makes sense right...(but now I have to look into it to be sure). I really doubt thats the case.

I still have to look up the section he referenced on the ticket.

Spencer, what kind of exhaust are you running? Catted or de-cat? Did the cop look under the vehicle or anything?

Im not exactly sure, waiting to find that out. I haven't done anything since I bought it, but I guess I should have looked into this stuff sooner. I checked it for markings but I couldn't find anything.

i had bylaw come to my house the other day 15 days after i was checkin for air leaks in my garage with the door open. i only idled and held for about 20 seconds at 2000rpm

officer: i have recieved a complaint that someone at this residence has been revving their car motor
me: i dont know what you mean, my car hasnt been on the road for 8 months (winter storage)
officer: i dont think so. im giving you a written warning and any vehicle with a loud exhaust parked on the road will be towed from this residence. revving your motor in this area and loud exhausts are not tolerated.
me: there is no maximum decible limit yet. a cop cant even pull me over and give me a ticket for too loud of an exhaust unless theres a complaint.
officer: well thats how it is. im warning you
me: get the F*CK off my lawn and dont come back unless you get some evidence. do you not see the keep off the grass sign!? we just had our yard sodded and you cant be on it!!! you should know the law youre a by law officer!
