DUDE! Hatch is a pric! He called me back, we talked for a bit and then he hung up on me! Please try calling him and leaving messages for him at 1-800-465-3054 he is a seriously pompous piece of work! He represents the interests of 21 brands of cars sold strictly by new car dealers. He admitted that the JDM market poses no threat to the new car market, they just don't like us. I have figures on imports in Canada put out by JUMVEA monthly, and Canadian imports rarely exceed 300 cars a month!
Track cars are nice, but so are Kei trucks that get you 17km/L and Diesel Delicas that are just badass...

well thats an easy law to pass cause australia doesnt produce any good cars (abeit the ford xr6t). even so there are new jdm hondas in australia (have imported 2 myself and my brother in law has imported 7) and plenty of imported new gtrs (which can be ordered through nissan australia as well) so the laws aren't well enforced. Also works on the flipside there as dad imported a corvette rhd version in to australia even though you can order them at a dealership in lhd (at twice the price).

Car companies complain cause they have sales taken away.... well make better cars at a reasonable price then!

It was on the CBC radio 1 news this afternoon as well- the CADA complaining about this 'loophole' with transport Canada allowing 15 year old imports. The CADA has one position on the matter- they want the law changed. In their lobbying to Transport Canada and press releases, they will take any position on the matter that helps them- the STUPID $%&ing 40% stat, the wrong side of the road opinion.. doesn't matter how they disguise it, they want the law changed as they see JDM imports as a threat to their industry.

the damn arguments are stupid, i've seen a few skylines since moving here, i admit i admired them, ONLY when they're been in view of the direction i'm going, i don't stare and turn my head and look off the road, that said, the car has no control over if i look or not, and for the traffic comment, on the highway, yes it can be important to see the other lane, but at the same time, theres a lot of passing lanes that go the same direction as you (not sure if i explained that properly), and you shouldn't be leaving your side of the street in towns/cities, so that argument is pretty useless..

Autoblog posted on the matter. They used the term "loophole," but they were defending RHD cars more than condemning them.

This is seriously ridiculous. Hatch is an asshole, plain and simple. CADA can go suck a big one. We're here to stay, and we'll fight to the death to keep our cars.

I have a feeling this is not going to go anywhere just like it has in the past. If it does the very worst that will happen is all our cars get grandfathered in, we won't loose them. On the bright side for all of us owning RHD, our car value's will shoot through the roof like in quebec.

also read the other option besides banning was raising the import limit to 25 years. Really funny thing is there by the time the law is in place we get screwed out of r34's but r32's can start coming over again and we are back where we started lol

I saw news about RHD vehicle being unsafe on the road yesterday on Chinese Channel. They even say this is all because of FnF and also put a short clip of Tokyo drift on the news. This made me laugh and also very disturbing. They even push this news so far to the minority news to brain wash everyone. I think we are fighting a losing battle if we cannot get our message to the mainstream.
