I still can't wrap my head around the seatbelt/taillight thing. They're factory parts. They came like that, and therefore HAD to meet the safety requirements (which, as far as I'm aware, are more or less the same worldwide)Originally posted by kengeroothat's what I thought when I opened the package..

ding ding ding lol dot is the only thing pmi cares about. and to pass a regular safety, i have no clue, i believe they just check to see that the seat belts work. however when you get ticketed and have to bring it into mpi for inspection seat belts will need to be changed. i saw a 240 sx at the junk yard so i just grabbed the seat belts cause i could!
rear side markers i can understand that cause the taillights don't prodrude to the sides of the vehicle. but the tailights themselves, common they are red. shine brighter when break is applied and they have a reflective serface on them.
I have an extra pair of tailights that im opening up, cutting the red rings. and then siliconing a trailer light cover in it's place. and hopefully that passes cause there is no other way. I know rush siliconed his over top of his taillights wich looks clean but i don't think it would pass at mpiOriginally posted by Paradis^^ hows not being rich going? ...haters be hatin

I these vehicles truely don't have the proper sae/dot markings and side markers, and MPIC ignores or refuses to do anything about said vehicles, it could be grounds for a discrimination suit... These cars (mercedes/ vw's)are owned/ operated by outstanding citizens, all you people with your "imports" are lowlife wreck looses, and a bane to society! lolLast edited by BRN32; 12-18-2010, 04:12 AM.Originally posted by SnowSure a condom holds water but you don't see me drinking from one.

I made all of the changes to my GT-R33 so I could get the cops off of my back, the only thing I changed back was my exhaust. If I have to drive my car with a real muffler then I don't want to drive it anymore.
I was going to change it all back, but is it worth the hassle ? Probably not, they will pull you over multiply times dude.
Tony is doing it the right way, you have to use an old set of tail lights and bust out the lenses, and replace them with DOT approved lenses, it's the only way really. My headlights are from a dodge avenger, it was the closest I could find with the same curve in them. For the R32, you have to use accord headlights. The other garbage is easy, but a pain in the butt.
Now, about this rumor Tony. Whether it happens or not will only matter to those who have not declared ownership of the car and had it registered. My car is registered and saftied in Manitoba, so they would have a hard time telling me my car would no longer be inssurable. If they did do this they would have to grandfather all owners of RHD cars that are already registered as long as they are saftied. I have a friend who is a lawyer and he says I would win in court, and if it comes to that then I will go to court.
Another thing about court; by buddy also tell me that there is nothing in the actual "BOOK" about saftey standards that says anything has to be dot approved, it is MPI and the WPS's opion, and if you went to court you would probably beat it, but they could just pull you over again and make you go through the whole process again.
I will let you guys know if there is going to be the same thing going on this summer as I might have some insider info.
My connections did not save me though, I got tagged twice last summer, and in the end it cost me at least $1500.
Peace

yeah, thanks for the feedback i was pretty aware of everything.
This was just something i heard at the beginning of february and the persona who told me sounded super serious, but i was in the process of registering my car, and everything was fine just my safety slip wasn't. no my only task is getting a valid safety!
As Travis stated when i talked to him many times, if they were to grandfather, they would have to give the people of manitoba some sort of warning!Originally posted by Paradis^^ hows not being rich going? ...haters be hatin
