  • Rally Driving in BC?

Does anyone know of any rally going on in BC?

More importantly, how a new driver would go about getting into rally? I've just been reading some stuff about the Rocky Mountain Rally going on in Alberta, but I've had a tough time finding information about rally in BC, specifically somewhat close to the lower mainland, but I'm guessing that is optimistic thinking.

Rally is something I've wanted to do for a while and its something I'm thinking of pursuing after I get a race license, though I don't exactly want to have to move in order to do it!

So anyone with tips or a place to start, I'd like to hear from you!

This place sells products, builds cars, and has a track where you can learn and practise. I don't know much about rally but this looks like a good place to get started.

sweet dude, the rocky mountain rally just happened over may long, I wasn't able to go because I had to go to winnipeg to say bye to my grandpa. There are a couple of rallys in Meritt. I would reccomend you go to a couple rallys as a volunteer and learn what it is all about first. check out www.specialstage.com for a good forum you can learn a lot there.

Im pumped to hear someone else is into rally though, because in my opinion it is the best motorsport on earth. Go to youtube and look up Group B Rally and you will see some of the scariest most intense driving imaginable. This is where all wheel drive cars started as well as a lot of turbo technology. Anyways, im going on a tangent here...

Hey guys, thanks for the links. Both links look like they have a good bit of information on them.

I also read a while ago about an 'Urban Rally' being hosted closer to the lower mainland, does anyone know what those are all about? I gathered that it was rallying on a closed road course that is through a town/city but that doesn't really sound like it's actually what they do to me.

And J-Ran, yea I love rallying, I think it looks like one of the most exhilarating forms of motor sport. I was thinking about picking up an older Impreza or Evo when time + money allow and seeing what I could do to get in to amateur rally events or something along those lines. I have a feeling that it can get very expensive without sponsors though!

Hi there, a good place to start is going through the CARS website, it is the official rally body in Canada

There a several rally’s through out BC and Canada... most being in BC/AL/QE
I’ve know the guys at Rocket Rally since before they opened and they are top notch guys who really know their rally stuff (just look at Pats records)

They also offer rally car rentals for training and racing so you can try it out before committing to building a car

I was balls deep in the rally scene 4-5 years ago when it was becoming more known in Canada but like most other motor sports in Canada the rally scene is lacking even compared to the SCCA rally's in the US. Either way if you have the funds to do it, it is one of the most fun / terrifying sports you can compete in

I wouldn't start balls deep with a wrx or evo, you are asking for trouble there. Start with an fwd cheap pos like a vw golf or something with snow tires on it and lighten it anyway you can... some comfy seats would help too.

I used to live a few blocks from this event. It's called the Knox Mountain Hill Climb. It's just a steep mountain road with lots of twisties

I've also wanted to get into rally before. I have a cousin that is a professional rally driver in California. She's actually well known now as she was the first female to win an international rally event, and has also been on speedvision a few times. She's got a lot more sponsors now and has a crazy evo. She is also a professional drifter and has an S13 for that. She's crazy.

If I were wanting to get a cheap car to beat around, I would get a <1988 Corolla GT-S. It's a RWD light car and fun to throw around. I used to have a 1989 which was a coupe instead of the <1988 which is a hatch, and FWD instead of RWD, but I used to take it up on logging roads and dirt roads and had a blast. So much fun... Unfortunately the Skyline doesn't quite have the same travel so I wouldn't every want to take it on those roads....but I bet it would be a hoot to haev a lot more power and RWD.

Good luck in getting into it dude. It's so much fun

In the next 1-2 years I plan on getting into rally.

Currently I own an Evo, and I will be building it for rally use.

Is there anything around Saskatchewan that would be worth my time?

Sorry, I immediately chuckled on the inside and thought to myself, well, there are no mountains, so waaa waaaaa...There's gotta be a sweet flat, or possibly hilly circuit though? ;-)
