    That's exactly what I did to my 240sx. Even the little bent lip on the ducting panel is the same. LOL!

      Is anybody here running 370z Akebono brakes ?

      I would love to get more first hand experiences with those on Skylines if possible.

        i got my hardware for my custom brake ducts, total cost is ~80$


        now i still have to figure out clearances, the mouvement of the wheel is no biggie, but the fact that theres front axles complicates things,
        i'll probly won't be able to use both the deflector and the duct at the same time, since they will most likely be in the same place, unless i can figure something out

          I can't wait to see what you come up with. I haven't had time to do my own R&D yet. Trying to figure out some PS reservoir issues at the moment.

            I had the exact same problem at mission. I tried to rig up some ducting but the only kind that was flexible enough only came in 4 inch diameter. I tried to make the 4 inch work but it was impossible, just not enough room.
            So, I did this instead (WARNING: not pretty)

            Just a cheap way to redirect the air, took about 20 minutes per side. Not permanent but its easy too do if your garage isn't as well equipped as frankiman's.

              thats look effective enough

              i'll probly have a couple pics of what i'm planing in a couple days, i decided to get the engine running before finishing up the front brakes, i just finished the rears today

                Size of brake ducting could affect down force. One of the car manufacturers at Nurburgring was having this exact down force problem, where bigger brake ducting would make front of car lift, smaller brake ducting didn't provide enough air to rotors.

                Best way to make brake ducting, is like what they do on F1 brakes, where it provides air to whole rotor surface, centre of rotor, as shown in link below -



                Due to suspension arms, etc being in the way, it's the only way they can do it. Rolling a piece of thin sheet aluminium around a barrel or similar to make brake ducting and putting a cap on it with duct to draw air in.

                  AMS ones are an amazing deal for the price. a 17in rim clears no problem but not the best stopping power from my experience

                    frankiman, where are the urethane brake ducts from? wouldnt mind rigging one as an air intake to my fender
                    I love the thing and its worth it every time I start it. As soon as it stops make me smile ill get rid of it (not gonna happen)

                      they are only plastic after all, i bought them from a local race parts shop, Perry Auto Laval

                      i don't even know if i'll end up fitting the darn things this year,
                      i can't find the time/energy to do it, i just want to drive the car a bit before sending it back to storage
                      and also theres the fact that i exploded a fender liner this weekend

                        Hey guys I wanted to bring this back to life. I went for a track lapping day, had so much fun and I learned a lot about my car. I need brakes and tires. I don't really want to go with a big brake kit as I run OE 16" rims right know. I did read the whole post and I like what gtr dad wrote. I just wanted to see if any one runs track days with a strong brake set up using stock calipers?

                          I think there are quite a few people running track on stock calipers. I used to race at smaller tracks with stock calipers and had no issues. Use a good set of pads (such as Hawk, Endless, Project Mu or EBC), a set of stainless brake lines, some good brake fluid and you should be surprised how they will perform.
                          Just make sure you have some GOOD tires on the car, that will make the biggest difference on the track.

                            Big brakes are when stopping from high speeds multiple times without brake fade. The difference in braking distance is very minimal between stock and aftermarket brake kits and mainly comes down to tye grip difference (stock tyres vs semi slicks or slicks).

                            Heat of rotors is a problem, which is transferred to brake pads, calipers, brake hoses, brake fluid. When brake fluid overheats, you get brake fade. That's where removing stone shields behind rotors and fitting braking ducting helps.

                            For a track car, Project MU 2 piece rotors front (cheaper to replace outer part), single piece rear rotor, Project MU brake pads, 600+ boiling point brake fluid, Nismo braided brake hoses (I think Project MU might sell brake hoses), Cusco brake master cylinder stopper (stops brake master cylinder diving under heavy braking), brake ducting (to keep rotor temps in certain temp range), semi slick tyres (road legal slicks, as have grooves to shed water and suspension to match).

                                No, they are BNR32 specific. We always have front and rear DBA 4000 slotted rotors in stock, and we do packages with rotors and pads all the way around for around $900 depending on the pads you want. For pads we have Hawk HPS, Hawk HP+ and EBC Yellowstuff in stock.
