  • Who here owns one?

I haven't heard anything really from R35 owners here...no build threads, no photos, no discussion...this subforum is not living to its full potential!

Nitrouz is an owner that comes to mind. Most R35 owners go to GTROC.

yeah not to knock GTRC but this isnt really home to the r35. this is a pure skyline owner site for sure.
Real Skyline owners have lost at least one to a freakish accident (*- ω -) = #dungive'a

I think most of the people on this site look at R35 GT-R's as more or less a disgrace to the Skyline GT-R lineage.

I mean, it doesn't have a tried and true low capacity inline 6. It doesn't have a standalone Twin Turbo setup (from what I hear, they're integrated). It ditched the Skyline name, in order to enhance sales. And it's mostly all computer controlled (a trait that should have reached its limit with the BNR34).

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure most people here like them, but I don't think many people see them as a sort of "continuation" that is worthy of the GT-R nameplate.

Not only that, but I'd be willing to bet most of us on here are young guys, just starting to make it in the world, who are very happy with our lowly R32's and R33's.

i dont think the R35 is a disgrace.

fyi, even the R34 JGTC cars didnt use the RB anymore, it was ditched in 03.. or sometime around there, but definately had the V6 in there already by then.

do you see how much ass it kicks everywhere? it DEFINATELY deserves the GTR name.

I don't care how much ass it kicks, I don't think it's worthy. If it is, which is a slim IF, it shouldn't be a seperate model, but an extension of the Skyline range itself.

In other words, it's title should be "Skyline GT-R". Skyline's were the ones who started the ass kicking, with the GT-B's in the 60's. The GT-R wouldn't be here but for that Skyline name, and it kicked it to the curb, in order to increase sales.

Sure, the GT-R maybe a world beater, but I'm saying, it's a disgrace to the title of GT-R, without that Skyline lineage behind it. I think the Skyline name deserves that.

siggy says it all, I'd take a BNR32 over an R35 hands down ANY day of the week. Im close to the R32 though.

I dunno man, I've been in one several times at let me tell you I think it lives up to the GTR label. It may not be called a Skyline but essentially that's because it isn't, therefore it can't really be a disgrace.

The Skyline label is for a variety of different trim levels the lowest being a natural aspirated family sedan - and the highest being a GTR.

The GTR has always been about using as much technology as possible, and in this sense I think the R35 does well. It may not have the RB engine, but it has a Front Mid-ship V6, which actually is better for handling purposes because there is less weight over the front axle.

I think you would retract your statement after going for a rip in an R35 in R mode.

I would take an R34 over an R35 simply because the 34 is much harder to a quire in NA.

But sadly if somebody offered me an R35 for my 32 I'd for sure trade it haha... I mean if I regretted it I could just sell the R35 and buy 4 R32s

How would "ditching the Skyline name" enhance sales? If anything, it would make the R35 more recognizable. The Skyline namesake is not applied to the CBAR35 simply because it's not based on a lower level vehicle. It's a supercar built from scratch, not based on a family mover. All previous GT-R's were based on Skylines of a lower trim level, hence the "Skyline GT-R" name.
In many ways, the R35 GT-R is very similar to the BNR32. When the BNR32 debuted in 89', it was a technological masterpiece. It featured many technologies beyond it's time and put many sports cars costing several times more to shame.
The R32 was just as advanced as the R35 back in it's day - it was considered a Playstation on wheels.
The R35 is doing the exact same thing today that the R32 did years ago, albeit with slightly different hardware.

The R35 isn't really a direct successor to the R34, Nissan seems to be trying to separate the "Skyline" and "GT-R" labels as much as possible. They're trying to establish a larger fan base and draw in a more diverse group of customers by moving away from the "boy-racer" image of the Skyline GT-R.
The R35 would be placed a bit higher than the R32 in terms of it's segment and competition. The BNR32 didn't cost as much as the R35 when it was new. The R35 is a more focused supercar - not that the R32 isn't a great sports car, but the competition wasn't as stiff in the early 90's.

The new GT-R is the spritual successor to the Skyline GT-R's. Yeah, there are a few technical differences (V6 vs. I6, etc), but a vehicle has to change to stay competitive. It has to improve and evolve over time, just like anything else. Nissan can't make Skylines that adhere to the same formula forever.

The way I see it, the R35 isn't "a disgrace to the Skyline lineage", but an evolved GT-R that is headed in a different direction.

I highly doubt it. I agree with you on the fact that theyre really hard to acquire, thats one of the big reasons that they appeal so much to me. Anyone with money can walk into Nissan and buy a new GTR, but with the JDMs, so much time, effort, and patience must be given, I mean look at this site. The rarity of it, getting looks while driving on the highway etc...theres nothing else like it.

The only highway drive I've done in a skyline was about 15 mins long, and that whole time I was so excited, i looked around at everyone else to see what their reactions were. and EVERY single person after first glancing was snapping their head back over to us, yelling at the others in the car to look and give thumbs up. It feels so empowering If i get half as many thumbs up as I dish out, and people in the GTA know what i mean hahaha, Ill be one happy camper

                          edit:

I do not have one but two of my buddies do. One's a stock 2010 and the other ones a modded (590 AWHP) 2009. Unfortunately they are not big into forums, trust me I've tried. Vince's 2009 is absolutely insane it makes my 700+ HP Z32 TT feel like a sledgehammer compared to th scapel like abilities of his GTR. They difference between Bob's stock 2010 a Vince's modded 09' are the modded one is more of a driver's car it's just as smart still as the 2010 but where you normally stay in the throttle to push it around a corner the 09' you can't go past 1/4 or 1/2 throttle or it becomes an all wheel drive drift. The 2009 runs 10.8 in the 1/4 mile and 0-60 in 3 seconds flat (without launch control-which recently blew on his transmission).

I love the R32 but after driving/mobbing the newer GTRs I have to agree it is just like the GTRs in 89' way ahead of their time and able to defeat and outdrive most every other supercar out there and with very little driving skill. It's not a Skyline, and I agree with someone else's ealier post it's not based off of the family sedan of the Nissan 350GT Skyline/G35/G37 in North America. It is it's own line of car so thus the name change.

I was like many of you until I drove one it is quite simply the most amazing car ever to drive and if any of you have an opportunity to drive one really hard you would change your mind. I am a pretty simple kind of guy and very practical so an $80K USD is ridiculous but after driving some myself they are worth every penny. And they have done all of us proud to continue the GTR lineage with such elegance, grace, precision, and remarkable power and abilities.

I've driven two, but maybe I'm just stubborn...

GT-R's are amazing cars, and unfortunately, I haven't driven them as hard as I would have liked.

Hell, one drive was only in a parking lot.

But you know, the car itself is amazing. I think I'm just being stubborn with this whole Skyline name thing...
