ive been thinking of getting one of these to replace my current DD and winter vehicle... just gotta sell the current car first...

its either a GTiR or a GTS-4 sedan but i havent seen as many in as nice condition as the GTiR, as well as price...
How many kids with A.D.D. does it take to screw in a light bulb?

with an attessa controller (or the stinky AWD thing) that thing would be a trooper in the snow.

hmmm... well next year when time comes to rid myself of the domestic i have i hope there are nice clean gts-4's waiting as much as i like the GTiR, from what ive read, the gearing isnt all that kind on the highways, and where i live there are alot of highways....

although one of the attractive things about the GTiR is the SR20... compared to the RB20... i think parts and working on it would be much easier... but who knows, when the time comes i will get what ever is best...

the idea of a gts-4 to compliment hte GTR is worth while to think more about now

Yeah, that's me! The car is working real well for a daily. It's a lot more tail happy then you'd expect for a hatch. Brakes are no good at all in stock trim, I threw in some EBC red stuffs and it's pretty decent these days.

Overall, good city car. I had a 1 hour highway commute to work for a few months, and it would need a fill every morning. It gets ~ 400kms to a tank, and the tank is near 40L.

If you are in the market, look at the rear seat belt latches, it is a common thing for the outer ones to not work. I only have the center seat belt working in mine.

Mechanically, it's decent. Not nice to work under the hood, just about everyting you do requires the intercooler be removed. Some neat info I've learned about the GTi-R SR: Bigger head studs then S chassis SR's, 8.3:1 compression, runs 10.5psi off the lot. Biggest stock turbo of the SR's.

Like Terrh said, expect high revs and boost on the highway, which makes passing easy! There is a big following and the aftermarket selection is good and still improving.

Good cars, real fun in the snow, overall reliable fun car.

120km/h = crusing at 4500RPM and 5PSI.. my GTR uses much less fuel than the gtir does, especially on the highway. If you don't have ANY 401 driving to do on a regular basis then I'd go for it but they're certainly not a road trip car.
Sounds just like the early gen Evo's.

thanks for the input, luckily i don't have any commute at all really. my truck doesn't even warm up by the time i get to work. 400km / 40L that's some decent mileage, which is my main concern for my next daily driver. Just a 15+ yr old car scares me a bit for reliability when matters everyday. Just got to find a good one.

what could somebody expect to pay for a decent lightly modded GTiR?

From when I was looking at one here... they are very over priced locally for the condition they were in.

I drove two for sale and one was $6500 and the other was $8000. I wouldn't have paid over $5000 for either. They had sloppy steering, worn out shifter bushings, worn out interiors... smoked in.. etc.

Your best bet would be to import one, because these are a bit more rare than Skylines and hard to find in nice condition.

I still say buy a DSM if you must have AWD. and get a 240 or FC if RWD will do.

ya but i dont like DSM's i like how the GTi-R has a higher stance.. and how its a hatch back with ample room

DSM's are hatchback, and with lots of space. on seperate occasions I've put the following into the hatch of my DSM's:

-an RB26, with the head on (I could've fit another one beside it even)
-2 GTR transmissions (at the same time)
                            - complete longblock FD3S engine w/ alternator, manifolds, turbos, etc you name it
                            - a 10' long piece of 4" stainless exhaust pipe (even got the hatch shut!)
                            - years ago, probably 40 or 50 pizzas at the same time when doing a school order delivering pizza
                            - 4 wheels/tires
etc... they've got tons of room if you fold the back seat down.

the thing about DSM's is (as far as a first car goes)
                            they're cheap to buy
                            they're cheap to upgrade
they're cheap to fix, if stuff breaks, or you crash it (both will happen to a first car)
parts are abundant and and easy to find, so its not off the road for long periods of time when it is broken.
oh, and they're not bad on gas, especially compared to a pulsar.

If you don't like how they sit low (stock ones don't sit low though really?) I lifted mine 2" with some spring spacers to get more clearance for snow. Works really well, makes the car slightly more tail happy but in most AWD cars that's an improvement anyways.

i know that DSM's are a hatch, but for the application i would have in mind they dont have enough room... i love my car audio with my current set-up in my neon i hit 140.1db in a hatch it would have been even better...

also the DSM's back seats are puny and head room is lacking, parts for the GTi-R are not so hard to come by it does have the SR20 which makes after market parts plentiful...

the GTiR isnt nearly as flashy looking either, i live in a rather small community, only about 75,000 in the west kootenays(and thats pushing it) there are a few DSM's out here and i have seen them pulled over quite a few times...

the GTiR would be a winter/bad weather vehicle, i plan on getting a 50cc scooter to putt my butt to work when the weather gets nice, as it will save me 100's of dollars a year(in about 2.5 years it pays for its self)

while DSM's are domesticated imports, the many problems associated with them turn me off... i dont want to heavily mod it, but i also dont want to be scared to...
