  • most of us park them for the winter, the salt sucks up north. i tried driving my old 944 in the snow a couple times, got stuck 100 percent of the time. gave up and parked it every winter.
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

good 2 know for when i get one but i might be driving a ford winstar in the winter if we get the tranny fixed.

It snowed 4 days after I got my car, I couldn't even get down my street. And my car is pretty mint for being 20 years old so I don't want any rust.
So civic it is 3-4 months of the year, cheap on gas

I have a Dakota (which I intensely dislike). It's a longbox and RWD. So each rear wheel has approximately sixteen pounds on it. Open diff of course for half-traction-action. It's a bit like pushing a cat around by the tail.

I have good winter tires, studded. I don't get stuck at any lights, and while I do fish tail all over the road it's only as I want to

Tires and a bit of skill ... don't fear the RWD

my dad has a dakota sport to and he never drives it in the winter cause he has to put my moms blow dryer on the engine and everything just to get it started.

but ohwell he does concrete so not like he needs the truck.

anyways sorry for taking this thread a bit off topic.

            • Yes IMO to the weight in the rear. It does give you a ballast in the rear but the added weight applies more pressure toward the ground/snow. Unless you drive sideways all the time in the snow the rear ballast won't affect you. Yes the mass will want to go forward when you turn but if you know how to drive you brake before the turn, accelerate out.

I carry my key items and that is enough to keep me on the road including, OEM tools/jack, 2 GTR rims with all seasons, my little tool kit, needed fluids, and of course a blanket. Those are all in my trunk and my car feels sturdy as well in the winter, so far.

A blow dryer? Has he not heard of a block heater?

In any event, there's something that needs to be fixed there if it won't start. My cummins started, unplugged, one night when it was -46 out, so he has no excuse with a gasser.

no it gets that cold out here in the country, usually minus 50 with a wind shill (every now and then)
cummins start excellent if the battery is good enough, when its that cold and not plugged in the glow plugs take alot.

                            • The Cummins engines used in the Rams don't have glow plugs
