Great idea JZ! By limiting scope to the JDM segment you've identified, a narrower niche is accessed, but some comparable cars are omitted.

I think it'd be fun to debate the merits of, say, an M3, a Cayman, a Vette and a BNR32.

Sounds like a great idea. Just make sure to get a few more moderators. As i've seen with any site that includes different brands and cars, it can get out of hand pretty quickly. But if the mods are as good as the ones on gtrc it shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry to bring back an older thread, but I'm curious as to what's happening with this idea? Any updates?

It would be cool but I think talks like this are sufficient in the OT. I can understand branching out for a classified section for non-skylines but other than that we're all mostly in the same boat when it comes to talking about things besides skylines.

Now I would be completely against a sub-forum for other JDMs; your idea would work in theory. However, this would cause something to GTRC. Speaking for myself (and probably a bunch of others also), I like to keep my internet surfing nice and minimal. As much as I'd like to be loyal to another forum of yours JZ, it's just too much of a hassle for me. I understand that there are some members on here that religiously go inside and out of every JDM forum out there (Zilvia, son240sx, etc etc) and this would just be another place to scour for info, but I'm not that type, and I'm sure there are some people that would agree with me. I am the type of person that surfs around, looks at a few sites, and becomes partial to only one after a while. For the JDM community, I've chosen GTRC as my staple site for all of my needs for reasons everyone agrees on (fellowship, maturity, etc). Having a second site would thin out the loyal members you already have on here methinks.

IMO, "branching out" to something outside of a niche would bring generalized audience. These are the very people we tend to avoid and are the reason we like GTRC and not fanboi sites. Not only would we have to meddle with these fanbois, but since these sites will be affiliated, these members would seep through and we'll have a lot more douchebags running around starting **** with our mature members.

Like the german spy QuietChaos said above, he's here because he's a JDM fan and not strictly for GTRs. That must be substantial enough to say that JDM enthusiasts find themselves settling here, despite the fact that it's a "niche" GTR forum. So because of this, I would consider a new site to be somewhat redundant. Like I said before, anything worth saying about something else JDM is immediately posted in our OT section.

Now the other side of this coin is that sometimes we have members that do not have GTRs and therefore do not "belong" on this site in terms of posting their project cars, asking about problems etc., and it's sad that we can't accommodate them all.

The thing is, however, there are sites out there, like GTRC, that are focused on these said cars, and this is where posts like I mentioned above belong. There are answers for these questions somewhere on another forum out there. My guess is that GTRC's loyal members only stray from this site when they need this kind of info.

You may notice that pretty much ANY site that is general draws the most amount of non-mature members. I frequent ultimate-guitar.com because I'm also a guitar player, but I try to avoid the forums. Let me put it this way... ultimate-guitar.com has a slight rivalry with 4chan, and they pretty much act like the members on that site anyway. Everything that you strive to protect this site from happens there. Spam posts with the "lolwut pear" and countless, countless other internet mems and "inside jokes" just make anything posted go retardedly off-topic and everyone hates each other and the list goes on with its negativity. Barely anyone waves their e-penis around on this site. How many other sites can say that?

Bottom line, I understand that it'd be another source of income for you JZ and it'd be an easy resource for members here looking for other stuff, but I'm afraid that the core and heart of GTRC will be lost. It's obvious that this site was made for GTR enthusiasts to talk about GTRs, but it's grown into something much more than that and everyone here already knows that. I know I may be thinking cynically, but I believe that this type of thing could very well happen, and I would be disappointed if this place got tainted or thinned out.

Btw, thanks for letting us voice our opinion!
              Long live JZ.

I agree with this above post, but I'd also like to add, it might interest members of this forum to have a "Non-Skyline/All Other Marques" related chit chat zone, because I know we're not all JUST into Skyline's here.

Most of us here love the JDM Scene in general, which is why we bought our cars, or love these cars in the first place.

I think it would be Okay, but I look at other sites like Zilvia and such, when different car 'groups' collide, thats when sht hits the fan. Bashing central.

I think the reason this forum is so civilized, is because we are all here for the same reason and for the same car, are opinions flow in unison.

                        Hey, speak for yourself.

Honestly, I have no idea how a bunch of sports car-driving 20-somethings manage to get along like normal people on this forum.

(I'm assuming the majority of GTRC's users are in their 20's.)

Yep, just like you and me Kev. Look at Ryan, he's pretty young too right? And we have people like GTRJames, etc, who are our age as well.

Not sure I agree with the balding comment but I am definitely middle-aged (as well as at least one of the moderators here).

Good post above, and will be taken into consideration.

I'm still working on the project. They don't get born overnight you know (at least at the pace I work...)

yep, I'm still a youngster. 17 right now. there are a few of us, RHDskyline is in the same boat.

As annoying as I am on here, (I honestly try not to be ) I just try to keep conversation going and chat about goings-ons and car builds. We know our place in the forum and don't stir stuff up for the most part.

Again, while looking at sites like SON240 and Zilvia, its pretty much the exact opposite. I am very proud and glad that I am here, and I really hope it doesn't change too much, there are other sites for other folks. If you were to branch into everything else John, please keep GTRC off to the side, I don't want it to be tainted
