Won't happen up here to the degree it does down there because we don't have scum sucking auto industry lobiest douch-bags who don't even know how to change their own oil ramming through political agendas for their "employers". Cash for Clunkers has nothing to do with the enviroment or making the roads safer (although it is an un-initentional by-product). It's all about making money. They don't give a rat's a$$ if ireplacable classics get destroyed. They just want people to buy a new piece of crap that won't last half as long as the car that just got "retired".

Once they're gone, they're gone. Makes me sick.

what are you talking about not up there? weren't the car companies suggesting requiring scrapping cars at a certain mileage in canadia?
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

scrapping a car regardes of year or kms is just rediculous, i wouldnt want to own half the new cars out there this moment, and nothing i could afford anyways, and i like not having car payments, insurance is bad enough.

if it comes down to me losing a car that i care for and paid for and dont owe money i would not want it to get crushed.

                calling BS on this one.

You'd have to be pretty dumb to trade in your $10k car for $3500.

As for the environmental comments here...Its been said before but this is actually worse for than the environment. Think of all the energy required to scrap and make an new car (even if some is recycled) compared to maintaining an older car. Cars should be run into the ground or written off in an accident before being scrapped. All these cash for clunker deals in Europe and US only continue the pattern of consuming and waste...rather than solving the real problems.

imo, the whole cash for clunkers thing isnt really about the environment, it might be what they are trying to make it seem like, but my money is on that its actually for the big car companies and dealerships... less used cars on the market = more new cars being bought, especially apparently when the money they give you from the cash for clunkers has to be used for purchasing/ ordering a brand new car.

I hate car manufacturers, just look at most new cars, for some of them it's
getting almost impossible to get parts for. More and more newer cars require
you to go get your parts at the dealers. And the parts aren't getting cheaper.

But, what do you espect from elected pupets, they beleive pretty much
anything a big compagny tells them, because we all know they have money
and that they did a lot of research. Hell the onely research they do is start
from a already made opinion and try to find the best way to convince the
higher ranking goverment official, wich doesn't appear to be to hard. lol

Anyway I'll end my rant here I could go on.

The C4C is a good idea in principal, it's just not applied the proper way.

god this makes me sad. makes me want to blow up new car dealerships.
and the sick redneck f*cks that work there... they get off on this sh*t, ruining things.
this shouldn't happen, i too believe cars should be used until they cannot go anymore.

I think the cars that are still in good mechanical order and safe to drive should be givin to less fortunate people who could use some wheels but can't afford making car payments. Like when the Top Gear guys gave their cars away to some victims of the Hurricane Katrina.

                          My cars:
                          1996 BCNR33 GT-R
                          1992 FD3S RX-7 Type-S

there are a lot of wierd ppl on this thread except gtr-guy
                            i like cars, but c'mon

but you are right, this is not about the enviroment, this is to stimulate the economy
money is most important, that is why they are not giving these cars away to less fortunate families that could use them, because that wouldnt help the Government pay off foreign debt.
