12,000 dollars will get you a nice... okay FD.

Someone on here (??) has his FD for sale, direct from Japan where he lives, for 7500 dollars. All original, and minty fresh. That's likely the best price you'll find for a GOOD FD.

4000... well I'm guessing the seals are about to go, maybe the turbo's have already gone... high km's? Or maybe just the ODO rolled back? Bad interior? Worse body? I'm guessing he's not throwing any spare parts into it to make it run right if it does break right?

For your own good man, listen to us. We were all like you once, fantasizing and hoping, but even me, with my down again and up again choices, knows the difference between pushing yourself into a hole with them, either financially, or drivewise. If you don't believe me, look at my previous posts. Ask any member here too, they'll all tell you I enjoy cars maybe a little too much, and I'm constantly wondering if I should squabble what little savings I have on an FD, or a cheap cheap Skyline. Then reality kicks in, and I realize I'd only be putting myself into a huge rut.

Take our advice man, and do the right thing.

Although I agree with what most of the others have said here, I was recently in this situation too.

Last winter I had it set in my mind that I was going to buy either a late model Civic SiR (LHD), or a Celica All-Trac. I soon figured out that the only realistic way I could get an AWD Celica was to get a RHD Celica GT-Four, and I was still kinda on the fence about the Civic anyway. So I scraped up the pennies and bought a 1990 GT-Four that was listed on the cheap side of things, and I admit was very foolish with my decision as I quickly found the transmission was shot. I had lots of fun with this car, I didn't beat on it, I never got a ticket or an accident but I bought it because it was "cool" and I wanted one. Still, the transmission needed replacing, and when I balanced my options I decided to do get an even better car from a reliable seller.

Basically what I'm saying is, don't buy a RHD car, buy a car that you love... if it happens to be RHD, then ok. If someone showed you a pic of a LHD FD and you said "but it would be so much better if it were RHD," then you are simply a fanboy and shouldn't be shopping for cars like this.

Also about the $4000 FD... Don't buy it. Save your money to buy a really nice one, you will love the better car even more, and it will save you a lot of headaches.

Yea if people say owning a GT-R under 20 is hard, I really can't imagine an FD, especially one that cost 4k lol.

By any chance do you know a Taylor Gallivan in newmarket?

all of you are thinkin its an FD... but based on what info? i think for the price alone its prolly an non-turbo FC

                FOR AN FD.
Real Skyline owners have lost at least one to a freakish accident (*- ω -) = #dungive'a

It's not THAT much cheaper for an FC. The $4000 pretty much covers import fees for most vehicles, so there's bound to be something wrong. For an FC I'd reckon around $6-8,000 for average condition, and up to $11,000 for mint condition. FBs are quite difficult to find as are most mid 80's cars as they've not quite achieved collector's age, but are old enough to have been exported elsewhere (before Canada was popular), or scrapped. If you could find an FB in decent shape I wouldn't be suprised if it was more expensive than an FD.

It's not the price it's the condition. But I garuntee you that that $4000 FD will be littered with problems.

Two things you MUST check when buying and RX7. Compression and a coolant pressure test.

Then there are tons of "reliability" mods you need to do.

Owning an RX7 is not a small feat. You need to have at least 3k in the bank at all times... not even kidding.

Start reading on www.rx7club.com. I read threads on there for about a year before going ahead and buying one.

I paid 9.5k USD for my USDM FD from Portland.. Bone Stock. But now it's more like a 25k FD ...lol

I suggest looking for one that you can inspect in person. Don't buy a JDM FD that is in Japan.

Ye,s that's a good deal. And the car looks like it's in very nice shape as well. Also a fellow GTRC'r. And looking at his previous cars, it looks like he is very particular about his cars.

Yeah i was talking to him about it.

As you know Aaron, i have been looking at rx7's. I was talking to him quite a but about it. He was honest

He said i would need to do the regular maintenance on it, and change all the vacuum hoses.

Did deciding whether i want to get it. It would take 2 months to get here

If you do get a rotary, DRIVE IT!!!

Carbon kills them, never let them sit, and don't be afraid to get the revs up there. Use synthetic oil, and take it out for an hour or longer cruises regularly. If you've done research you will have seen countless rebuild threads because people use them as weekend cruisers and baby them too much.

That being said I would HIGHLY recommend that a rotary not be your first sports car. Something with AWD would really help with getting used to tight suspension and more power. I'd recommend from experience an ST185 Celica GT-Four, also a Subaru WRX or Nissan Pulsar GTi-R... that is if your going for RHD.
