He's not trying that hard, he's got a smoker's voice. Lyrics don't really stand out, but they're not bad either.

If there arent brutal crunchy riffs and ear splitting solo's, im not listening to it :P Also I saw slayer and megadeth when they came to vancouver. I think I'm a metal head?

Also, I hate background music that every workplace on the planet seems to play 24/7.

              Yes, you are a metalhead.

Shrapnel Records has always been known to sponsor and promote the most ferocious shredders and axemen of all time. Ranging from Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Alex Skolnick to Akira Takasaki and many others out of Europe, if you see a guitarist associated in any way with Shrapnel, you can rest assured he/she is a shredder and an awesome six string player.

I am appalled to see the pervasiveness of easy listening music and hip-hop/rap/r&b, especially in Toronto, where music is essentially a background item slated to support the goings-on in the foreground (dancing, driving, raves, etc..)......

.....like I always say, RAP is just C-R-A-P without the 'C'.

no love for hiphop because hip hop albums aren't in the top 3 of all time. sorry dude, not saying it's a sucky genre, it's just not as good of a genre.
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

Besides, hip-hop, rap, and R&B groups DON'T usually produce albums as a concept. They produce songs and then lump them together. I don't know ANY artist from the above genres who has ever produced a concept album.

A very pertinent point for me when it comes to metal is that without exception, metal bands produce music - real music and then fill in lyrics out of songs that have been written. Having been a metal musician myself for many years, I know for a fact that the music in metal stands on its own and does not need lyrics to complete it. In a way, for most of real metal, the music is augmented by singing. In the other genres, including alternative rock, nu-metal and grunge, lyrics take precedence over music itself. I would classify Slipknot, Primus and RHCP as exceptions to that rule though. Metal is made by MUSICIANS. Other genres to me are made by showmen/showwomen.

And please dont tell me that Madonna, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, etc., are good singers and real musicians. They are simply performers.

I agree with you completely, but there is one group that is an exception.

                          Wu-Tang Clan.

with only one album that I feel isnt a collaboration of singles, which is Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). This is the one and only hip-hop/rap/r&b album I will listen to.

I don't know if they are the best of all time, but these are 3 albums I can not live without.

                              1. Dokken - Back for the attack.
                              2. Extreme - Pornographiti.
                              3. Motley Crue - Girls, Girls, Girls.

If I was able to add a #4 it would be, Ratt - Invasion of your privacy.

My fav Dokken album was Beast from the East (live in japan).....I LOVE George Lynch!! And let's not forget Under lock & Key with that super fast shredder song: When the lightning strikes
Extreme - Extreme better as an album, but you cant go wrong with Sting of the Bumblebee and He Man Woman Hater, lol
RATT - Yes, Invasion of your Privacy was a great album. I think that, and Detonator made them big.
