nelson... i don't think ive ever met anyone with as bad as luck as you... allow me to re-count my experiences with this man.

first) after freshly installing his RB25 turbo and chipping the car to accept, he is overjoyed at the power... decides to take me for a quick rip down a side street by our school... BOOM... turbine explodes and exhaust wheel shatters after about 30 seconds of driving....

second) recently we met for filming of our movie.. marky mark rolls up spewing oil from his car and somehow luckily managed to catch the lack of oil problem before it did any damage


not to mention the series of personal injury he's caused himself.

the second time i ever went anywhere with you mark you tripped and fell down a oily staircase at one of the JDM shops... ouch definialty
when we were pulling the motor out of my car u smashed ur head on a short door frame in my basement!
and now all this trouble with buying parts...
you always make the best of a bad situation though, LOL , i guess just hang in there man, at some point the ******** will stop lol.

Wow that sucks... I've been scammed and screw a lot very the years in various forums (NASIOC is by far the worst) and it always hurts.

That said, I have nothing but great experiences on GTRC. All the members I've bought stuff from have not only been honest and very friendly but also very prompt to ship. I guess I've been lucky?

i have to say that i've been quite lucky too, never got "scammed", i have bought stuff that i knew was fuzzy but thats all on me

and, i think as a seller, i've provided a good service, with as much info as possible, providing pictures of all my items for sale with the best estimation of condition, then follow up with quick and constent communication with my buyers giving them shipping quotes asap to facilitate the whole exercise,
i've had some minor misunderstandings here and there, but a compromise was always found

mostly i've been f'ed up the ass on ebay, getting screwed into buying copy items that were supposed to be legit, and when selling i also got screwed when dirty people said they didn't receive my items, or (in the case of a xbox game) didn't even work

but anyway, my advice to buyers is to always ask for the proper and complete info before giving away your hard earned cash,
ask for recent pictures, original invoice, certificates of authenticity, a good evaluation of condition, and the real reason the item is beeing sold, etc, etc
your best defense against scamming is yourself
and i'd also advise people to use paypal since it has a built-in protection system, with mediators in the case there is a problem between seller and buyer

The wrecked car shown in OP looks a lot like a car some guy was selling in my old neighbourhood to buy an A4. The yellow calipers are hard to miss, and quite rare I'm sure.

I bought an R33 gtr and the guy gave me a good deal or so i thought. turns out i had to send my wheels to get repaired and told me the discounted price was due to this fact alone. There's a feedback option if you click on a member's name. Obviously you can only rate members.

Btw, if the R33 is in top shape, focus on that instead because it's way more important than the rims.

I've never been ripped off anywhere on the internet BUT on GTRC. I basically won't deal with anyone on here anymore. Some people on here are great, and a whole lot of you are not.

I havent kept up with this thread lately but i just read all your comments.. Seems like a good deal of us have seen the bad-side of GTRC. In all honesty i didnt think it was THAT bad. I realize that people are typically dishonest, and our society has taught us that, we cannot trust until proven trustworthy. In hindsight that's the least favourable take, but its unfortunately what it has come to..

It really deters any of us from helping eachother out..

I have noticed an odd trend though...
Catch me if i'm wrong but;
- Sellers with low post counts often sell shoddy items (this guy with his wrecked car; 70 some odd posts)
- sellers with mediochre to high post counts selling whole cars are likely to never return, thus sell shoddy parts (The guy who sold me my "Z32 maf")
- People who generally do not contribute useful information and are total noobers (my injectors are leaking, i'm going to sell them, they must be fine.. DUUHHHHH)

So i guess the take home message is, avoid people with low post counts who post shady topics/threads and dont seem to have the general knowledge to functionally dismantle the parts they're attempting to sell. Also, beware of those parting complete cars, especially those who've recently lost interest in the site and have recently died down in their post frequency. They're getting out of the game, they live 2000 miles away, the likelihood they give a f*ck about you is 0 to none.


edit; I'd also like to add that, people selling turbos - do not trust.. People selling suspension components - if you can honestly look me in the eye and tell me you have some sort of ability to see through the shock body and tell me that damper isn't gonna blow a nice gooey load all over my footwork, well, then you're insane, and it's probably a good deal. At any rate, i think it's safe to say that unless you've proven your ability to 'read' your cars parts moreso than saying "there's no shaft play" then people can take into account the validity of the items written quality. Otherwise, shaftplay is the least of your worries.. But not for me though.. I have a GF.

After writing that post, i thought maybe itd be interesting to chime in on the psychological aspects of internet forums and the reasons, at least to my best of knowledge, as to why there are two very different sides to the coin.

The most obvious reason there are those who sell quality products, and those who do not is simply on the basis of reciprocation. After thinking about post count, they simply havent posted enough to develop a relationship with the individuals in this forum. As soon as theres some degree of intersubjectivity (Talking back and forth), there develops an automatic emotional bond. Now i'm not saying i love any of you, rather i generate a degree of respect for those of you willing to help out as much as i do. Once this reciprocation is set in action, the likelihood of you turning around to me and selling me a shoddy product is highly unlikely. There would be an obvious sense of guilt, then shame, then embarassement as your name becomes plastered up in a community of individuals you worked hard at gaining the respect of.

Those of us willing to post bs items and tell everyone they're perfect, well they wont feel guilt on the basis they haven't yet constructed a relationship with anyone in the community. They can afford to take the step because guilt and shame only occur in closely intimate relationships ( i promise i dont love any of you ).

Strangely enough - emotional ties are often sought early in online interactions solely on the basis that the only thing that's being judged are your words; and to put it simply, your words dont define you as an individual. Yes your points of view might skew that thought, but you as a person, your personality and emotional integrity aren't pointed at by others and mocked. Your points of view and words are stronger and more resistant to that..

So i guess what im saying is, it's safer to buy from someone you've reciprocated with in the past. If you're going to buy an item from someone you've hardly interacted with on the forum, i dont suggest it, they simply won't be taken aback by the fact that they're selling you a shoddy part. Those of us in the community we make the effort to know and entrust are people we can trust - not always, but much more so than those we've hardly had the chance to talk to.

Thanks to Marus92 for the input, yah you were right for sure there are other things i should be worried about. My conclusion to this thread... It might be best to purchase new or rebuild our items. I'll be broke but at least I know there no such thing as shaft play!
