For those of you that live in victoria, you surly know about all the rain we receive, and mass amount of rain we received last night. During my wonderful walk home last night in the pissing rain, I had but one thing keeping me going: Led zepplin one on my iphone. about half way home, my volume turned down to almost zero, and my side buttons no longer worked for controlling volume. In fact, I didn't even have a volume bar at the bottom of the screen. Thinking that this must be a problem with the digital song, I tried listening to multiple videos on youtube, but still no luck. After about 5-8 minutes of attempting to reset every setting in the phone, I gave up, and just continued on my walk home for about another half an hour.
By the time my volume had shut it's self off, I was completely soaked. You know, where your clothes have become one with your body? Yeah, that wet. That being said, my pocket, which had my phone in it was also soaked. Seeing as I have an otter box commuter case, and a screen protector on it, I didn't jump to the conclusion of water damage until this morning when I clicked the home screen and noticed my screen looked... fuzzy... That, along with the phone feeling colder than usual, and the home screen having the upper 1/3 slightly whiter then the rest of the screen. I immediately whipped off the case, and tossed it into a ziplock container full of rice and that is where it has been sitting since 9am. I just went to turn it back on, but nothing has changed..
I am just going to leave it in the rice over night in hopes that it can dry out, but if it doesn't, what can I do? I know apple has a strict policy on any product that has suffered "water damage", but in my case, it was completely un avoidable. It's not I like I dropped it into a lake, or bathroom toilet. I simply fell victim to mother nature. I mean I could have drove home... but I was no where near sober, and decided walking was the best route..
I have yet to call fido (my SP) or apple with any questions regarding the issue in fear they will just mark my file and I will simply be SOL. Do any of you guys know of people who have had been in my same place? Or better yet, any of you that have a similar story?
I searched google, and all I came up with is in very humid climates, it is possible for the phone to be "water damaged" even though it was never in any actual water..
Cheers
Side note. The headphones still work, but I have no speaker volume. I also get a weird window that randomly pops up every few minutes saying that the interface im trying to use is not supported so I may loose signal strength or have slight interference..
