your phones charge per byte? verizon forced me to do an unlimited data usage for like 30 bucks a month for my droid, i dont know if other companies work similarly here. ive never paid by the byte so i really dont know whether im getting a good deal or not, though.I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

You do all realize Bell and Rogers has been doing this for a looooong time now, the simple solution is if your going to use quite a bit of internet over the standard limit they give you (usually 10,20,30gb) and get into the range where they charge you per GB is to switch to business internet. You get unlimited bandwidth for less than you likely will pay if you use the internet heavily on a "personal" connection. Oh and if you have been with Bell for an extended period of time say 5+ years they do have discounts that they wont tell you about but will give you if you go digging with a rep over the phone, not sure if Rogers has a anything like that or not though.Last edited by afix; 01-18-2011, 12:16 AM.

i work in this industry so here are a few facts :-
for each $35 internet connection , your ISP ismaking around 15 cents
90% of all downloads are illegal movies , mp3's and program iso's , again , this takes up 90% of all bandwidth on the internet in north america.
this year the IP4 network will run out of IP addresses meaning a switch to the ip6 network which requires significant backbone upgrades which cost alot of money.
internet gaming uses very little bandwidth
The CRTC want to see the following :-
Less pirating of music, movies and protection of the music industry including cd's dvd's etc.
Less distribution of pirated software (pressure from software companies) , this is why the PC games market has been almost abandoned by most software houses now.
A more stable internet connection for everyone , a more even spread of bandwidth usage.
To level the playing field between the big providers and the little independants.
To allow the internet providers to make enough cash to properly expand into rural areas , not just cities.
I agree that people who use vast amounts of bandwidth should be paying a hell of alot more than they do now .

Is it a bad thing that the older I get the more conservative I become?
Obama seems like a socialist to me ATM.
His campaign back in 2008 focussed on "free internet" and keeping it away from gov't control, yet his gov't has pressured Canada to do what they want to do.
