both are good answer. why ? because the equation is wrong.

        It's either (2(3+9)) or 2 *(3+9).

        end of thread.

Written the way it is, it should be calculated as follows:

              48 ÷ 2(9+3)

              = 48 ÷ 2(12)
= 48 ÷ 24 [distributive properties are included in the 'B', or 'Brackets' of BEDMAS, so those must be done before division/multiplication]
              = 2

You could also do it this way:

              48 ÷ 2(9+3)
= 48 ÷ (18 + 6) [you can solve the bracket first, as above, or distribute the coefficient through the bracket first...it doesn't matter]
              = 48 ÷ (24)
              = 2

Either way, the answer is definitely 2.

DAMN going over this my mind just blew up!

BEDMAS, yes you will do the brackets first, but you do the division and multiplication before any add or sub. if there are both division and multiplication in the same equation, then you do which ever one comes first by reading it left to right.

                  1.Brackets: (9+3) = 12 eq: 48/2(12)
                  2.Division: 48/2 = 24 eq: 24(12)
                  3.multi: 24*12= 288

                  but if it is written
                  48
                  -----
                  2(9+3)

then the 48 gets reduced to 24 and the 2 is gone. because there are 24 times 2 goes into 48 so...

                  24
                  ------=2
                  12

                  written (48/2)(9+3) you get 288

BUT if you take the derivative of the equation you get 0 so thats really what counts.

i Love how people on this forum are calling other people down because of a FRICKIN math question. Did it occur to you that some people here chose a line of work that doesn't include math, or if it does, very simple math.

Like think of the average job. When do you need to do questions like the one the OP asked. If you think about it. the Majority of jobs that people have. It uses simple math. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.

Of course there are a lot of jobs out there that require more. Like fractions, decimals, exponents, angles, circumference.

                          BUT THE MAJORITY DON'T

Congratulations if you figured the answer out. Get your mom to give you a pat on the back. Cause that's all you deserve.

If you didn't figure it out. Don't sweat it. Its not that big of deal.

The nerve of the people on this forum. Calling people down cause they didn't answer a question correctly.
