Oh, and just to play devils advocate:

Let's imagine the police got all these calls and did nothing about it because they had no evidence. They let this group go to this going away party. Then on their way home, after a couple of them may have had a drink or two even, they decide to do the same thing but this time they crash and kill someone else. Imagine the media hay-day they would have. Everyone would be saying the police are incompetent and stupid; they should have stopped the kids before they did something they'd regret. I bet if just one of those cars flipped and just the one driver was killed, and the news came out the police received previous warnings, the parents would have sued the police for not acting sooner. Really, the police were in a tough spot...

      Ok a couple things.....

Oakville- my friend got pulled doing well over 50+ in his dads suv and his car wasn't crushed but impounded for a week. He got 10k fine not including lawyer fees etc. He said they couldn't legally crush the vehicle because of the fact that he did not own the vehicle. I have heard many instances of this even in regards to garbage trucks etc. All I have to say is the impound lots must love this rule!

If by chance this was a hearsay ticket I would laugh in their face and see them in court! I have had the cops called on me a bunch of times and all the times were supposedly hearsay. Talked on the phone with the cop for a couple minutes and after saying do you have any concrete evidence placing me at the scene, what's that no? You sir/Mamet have a nice day "click". They have no leg to stand on and seriously hope that you come forward with a confession. I'd like to see the day when a cop tries o take me to jail on hearsay, I'll use my one call to give my lawyer a call and have him take care of it. Guarantee if it is hearsay that I'm held for at most a 24 hr period and then released.

The government needs the cops to do **** like this because the cops do have a quota for this; I'm sure they do. You don't see random checks on run of the mill cars and I see people drive away from bars all the time with beers in them. They need to focus on the true problems and stop wasting the tax payers money.
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

Example, Matt Zhang is identified as being a ridiculous driving douchebag breaking 200km/h evident with 3 warning charges; no punishment as of yet. When he does finally get in an accident and kill a couple people his insurance agency can give him the middle finger, force him and his family into bankruptcy and maybe serve a cold plate of justice. This would protect the police from getting sued and would add some responsibility to the individual driver who decides to boot it down a crowded highway.
This already exit it’s call a written warning. It’s stays in your file for something like a year.

Now imagine that at 200. You could argue it's the dumb bitches fault for changing lanes so erratically. You could also argue her 3 children in the back seat would still be alive if Matt Zhang didn't cut them in two with a matte black R8. The choice is yours.
I’m addressing this to those that think that the dum *ss driver changing lane always have the right of way.
If I take it from this you probably think that the autobahn is the most dangerous place to drive in the world. Well what you’re talking about here is an underlining problem with our society; it’s the refusals of the majority to take the blame for the lack of driving ability. (Hence the if you hit the rear of a car your at fault type of mentality, because most people have such a hard time grasping what’s in front of them they can’t possibly be responsible for what’s happening behind them. lol) The problem here is incompetent driver on the roads, mostly because of our lame NON OBLICATORY excuse of a driver, course, and the lack of facility where we can become better driver. Here’s a picture for you, a cop see’s a drivers ed car doing handbrake turn in a church parking lot during winter, what does he do ? Nothing. If he see’s a normal car, you bet your ass he’s going to tell them to scram off..... Another BIG problem is the lack of retesting, you might think why retesting. Do you know how hard it is in this country to take someone’s licence away? You can take medication, have cataract (almost blind), so old you barely have any reflex left and still be legal to drive because you passed the test eon ago. With mandatory retesting even just every 10 years you would get rid of a ton of dangerous people off our road. Unfortunately this won’t happen because this would affect mostly who, yes the old people, also know has the voter’s in this country, and god forbid if you’re going to see a politician do something good for this country, if it means he MIGHT lose a vote or 2.
I do understand the principal behind speed limit, but when you put those principal on our big multilane, single direction highway, they kind off loose there meaning. When you’re driving at highway speed you shouldn’t have to look at your speed, you should look where you’re going, but because of the fear of getting a ticket for going 21km/h over, most people constantly look at there speed. A big problem with even highway speed is most people don’t realise how far it’s going to take them to come to a complete stop.

In a perfect world where the media would actually care for the live of people, this might happen. Unfortunately, we couldn’t be further from that world. In this world the media would put ALL the blame on the driver, alcohol or CAR lmao, and give a million reason why no cop stopped those car sooner, beginning by we need MORE personnel, they are stretch to the limit, we need stricter rule, blablabla. Mean while a dozen civics with fart can are having a cop escort to their house, you know when they tail gate you home.
Anyway, to anyone trying to sue the government; good luck winning before you died of old age. lol

I couldn’t agree more with you. Just for giggle go see how much money the government actually make with speeding ticket, and tell me it’s not in their best interest to keep people from going to court (which every individual is entitle to do), oh and have stupid low speed change on certain highway for a ridiculous small distance in order to give out ticket. What’s next putting school zone sign on the highway because, there’s a school 200m behind a 10 meter high dirt hill with 1 meter high concrete divider’s, and chain link fence.
Most laws are there to patch issue that society doesn’t want to address (properly), and rarely in our best interest, if you choose to believe otherwise it’s your right, and also exactly what society expects from you. But if a cop’s pulls you over and you go to court, and you win, do you get back the days of salary that you had to take of work, money for your gas (you have to go to their court house not necessarily the closest one to you), food, and hotel ( in some case where it’s really far). NO nothing, but they’ll charge extra if you go to court and loose. If they had to repay people (a reasonable amount), when they were ticketed with a bull ticket, trust me they would have quite a few cop on short very short leash. But they won’t because it’s a money machine.

          You're incredibly stubborn and brain-wahsed.

The AutoBahn is a very safe place IMO. I could care less about how fast young punks are driving on the AutoBahn. Reason being is that the AutoBahn resides in a country where the drivers are properly trained and can't cheat the system. The issue here is not whether I think this driving at that speed is "safe," it is whether I think it is safe in this environment. Here it is not, no matter how you spin it or who you want to blame; the fuckhead doing 200 or the little old lady doing 70. You come out and fully admit that our drivers are incapable of upholding the same standards of those that drive on the AutoBahn.... So don't ******* drive like you're on the AutoBahn.

Rules are just that... Rules. The accident doesn't have to be your fault to kill you and everyone understands that. In Germany, they will take away licenses. They do have re-testing. In Switzerland you HAVE to be able to power-slide an S-curve on your road test because they don't want you to be prepared IF it happens, but WHEN it happens. It is a completely different situation and environment and too many variables are ignored; comparing the two in your argument is useless. Your claim of me thinking the AutoBahn is unsafe is damn well equivalent to you thinking I assume track days are dangerous to the public as well. Give your head a shake.

You can go all conspiracy theory on our asses and claim whatever you want. Money is what makes the world go 'round. Without those tickets the roads you like to rip up and down would be piles of garbage. Just be happy you weren't the one caught. "These people" who can't drive are not what's wrong with this society, it's people like you with a 20 year old car that won't shell the $120 to go to a track day to get your jollies off.

^ you man have just summed everything all up at once right there. It's nice to think that the rules are there to be enforced but they really aren't in many situations. Either someone's parents are getting them off or they simply screw up and don't want to put the shiit any further into plain site then they have to!

I was walking home today and saw 3 separate group of cops standing on the on the side of the road with smiles on their faces and chuckling to themselves. I wanted to walk over and ask them when the circle jerk would be over and why were they wasting my tax dollars!

As many of you can tell I love government and it's enforcement figures

Lol, yes I'm stobburn, brainwash not soo much.

I know the autobahn is safe, it's even been statistically proven to be safer than our North American road.

And you just proved my point. The autobahn is the perfect example, and what variable are you talking about, roads are statics (aldo there condition can vary), trees are statics, road barriers are statics, the variable are the cars (I'm pretty sure their car are similar to ours), the wild life (that's a given), the weather (And I think our winter's are good enough example, but not what I'm aiming for here), and the biggest factor the HUMAN factor. If I where to wake up one morning in Germany and decide to go for a coffee and take the highway, I'm pretty sure it would feel similar to if I did the same thing where I live right now. Yes I was pointing out the facts to why we don't have an autobahn here and why we probably never will, we have terrible drivers, and yet NOTING is done to make them better, just more laws and stricter laws, like that always worked (no driving with cell phone (texting), really, so now what do they do, they hide it out of sight while driving, that's better).

I hate burst your bubble Snow, and I have no idea why you might think I'm the problem with society. I don't drive a 20 years old car, my GTR DOESN'T even have an engine in it yet. Which I don't quite get since the age of the car doesn't really have anything to do with how you drive it anyway. And the only reason I don't pay 120$ for track days, is because I don't have the time, I work, it might be a simple job, but I rarely have 2 days in a row off and i'm on call pretty much ALL the time, it suck but it's life. And what do you call getting your jollies off, I've been driving for over well over 10 years, and even before that I was parking cars and diving them in my father's garage ( learned to drive stick when I was 12 going on 13 in the yard, on gravel). I have NEVER HAD ANY TICKET IN MY LIFE, NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT, hell I NEVER EVEN BEEN ON EI, even after my accident in the army, being a veteran at 18 sucks I should know, that's what I am. Took me over 8 years to recover and to the point of being able to do light exercise, I still have migraine after doing a simple thing little the dishes. You can't even imagine what I went trough, after the accident I had a hard time doing simple math (addition and subtraction), and I was enrolled in Mechanical Engineering. And still working 30hrs+ at a dead end job to pay for my tuition, food, etc. Had to give up on my dreams and transferred in accounting to finish with a degree in Finance only to graduate in the middle of a financial crises.

If you truly believe that what's wrong with society is people who drive old cars and who doesn't attend track days, I feel sad for you. I do agree with you money does make the world go around, which is also quite sad. And not sure about where you live right now, but the roads around my place are already garbage, but that's what you get with a top heavy government with an over burden health care, and not enough exportable resources, N-B is in deep sh*t.

What you should have retain from what I had wrote should have been that people see something on the news and automatically look at how they can contain the incident with laws, never looking at the fundamental issues. What I had pointed out is the HUGE lack in our drivers education, which most of them where parts off, it's a real joke, hell it's not even mandatory. You don't even have your license, yet your legal to drive(practice on public roads). You just lost your license, no problem, let's go practice on the roads. Street racing killed less people in the last 10 years then smoking in the last 10 month.
Crime have constantly dropped for the last 15 years, yet the latest statistical poll shows that most of us believe other wise.
It might be hard to believe but I'm against street racing (The kind with kids in the roads only inch from where the car pass is just insanity, and is what I consider real street racing). When I was young we had a place on a highway where we went to race every week end, (we might have been young but for some reason every body was behind the cars that were racing, for us it only seamed logical) the road was strait no side street, and no house. Cars braked down and in over 15 years no 1 single person got injured, but cars got faster and a bunch of pr*ck from outside tried to come in and make people pay, it just went down hill after that, not exactly sure on the fine detail since by that time I had moved away. Tracks are nice but are they open at night ? Not around here. Are they open every day ? Around here you can count the numbers of event pers years on 1 hand. Are track every where ? THERE IS ONLY 1 IN MY WHOLE FREAK*ING PROVINCE.

                    I'll make this incredibly simple:

The Massey Tunnel and HWY 99 are not the AutoBahn. So don't drive as if it is.

I'm assuming you haven't driven that highway at any point, nevermind at the time of day these kids were racing. It was a stupid idea. End of story. If you want to discuss the incompetence of BC drivers, chances are I will agree with you full-heartedly and hang off every word you say. Believe me, it drives me nuts. But that is not the debate here.

THIS is exactly what I would deem "taboo-acceptable." Just like when I said Cypress Bowl Road is a good spot to get your need for speed out of the way. There's no one around; the only people dying in this situation are those who fully knew the risks they were taking. I personally find no issue with this, so long as it is done somewhat responsibly (not using both lanes into a blind corner, or using roads in poor condition etc.)

As for my track comment, people like Matt Zhang, although limited, have access to track events. He even was just at one with a group of my friends in BC. Maybe I should rephrase my comment because obviously he shelled the money to track and still was an idiot on public roads. Collector240 (no idea what your name is), you do not strike me as the kind of person who would rip it down a crowded highway like these twats did, so no, you are not what is wrong with society. But stop defending what is.

                      Snow,

I think you got me wrong too, I'm NOT saying the kids driving those cars should have
to right to do what they did. What I have been saying from the beginning is, the cops
shouldn't have had the right to do what THEY did. If they would have pulled them over
had a chit chat gave them a verbal warning, like they should have, every thing would
be fine. Hell they could have plan a couple of ambush further ahead, and got them for
something legit. But NO they had to flex their muscle.

My first language is french, but I am proud that we live in English justice system.
Where your innocent until PROVEN guilty. I'm disgusted by that street racing b*ll
crap of a law. It just takes it too far.

What might have trowed you off, is that I find it insulting that we (yes, we, because
I too am part of the motorist in this country) are looked upon has not good enough to
drive faster then 110km/h on our highway. I think I already said enough on that
subject before, yet nothing is done to address them. While cars are required to have
stricter and stricter norm's, don't get me wrong they have come a long way in the past
decade or two. And having a safe car is nice and all, but wouldn't it be even better
if we could have better drivers so they wouldn't have to find out how safe their car
                      really are.

Even if they just did a something like a fast lane on the left lane of 4 lanes single
direction highways, doesn't need to be no speed limit, something like 160 km/h during
the summer and back to 110km/h during the winter or heavy rain, etc... I just find it
ridiculous that you get the same ticket independently of the weather, or time of day
(sun in your eye, yet still drive blindly).

Hope this clear's it up a little.

                      Jean-Francois

Massey tunnel is my stomping grounds. Cruise in at 20kph, get clear traffick and GO GO GO!!! I love the echo of my exhasut.

but in all seriousness, yes if in fact they were racing that is not the place to do it. well no where in the GVRD is... we don't have mega freeways like Europe and the USA where you can get away with these (illigal) actions.

drive faster then 110km/h on our highway. I think I already said enough on that
subject before, yet nothing is done to address them. While cars are required to have
stricter and stricter norm's, don't get me wrong they have come a long way in the past
decade or two. And having a safe car is nice and all, but wouldn't it be even better
if we could have better drivers so they wouldn't have to find out how safe their car
                          really are.
Okai you clearly have never been to Vancouver so you can't comment in this thread anymore. NO WHERE other than deep into the Fraser Valley is it safe for the general populus to go 110kph on our freeways (you know... the NORMAL people who don't know how to drive). Also, I WISH we had 4 lane one direction freeways. Our freeways are also not straight for miles like out east. They twist and turn and merge and exit and change all over the place.

You are living in a dream world.

Sorry if you got the wrong idea, and no I haven't been in Vancouver.

When I refer to 4 lanes highway, I'm referring to highways in Quebec, Ontario, where you can see miles in front, yet you'll have cop park clocking people hopping one goes a little faster going down hill ( or if you have an out of province plate, you'll more than likely get a ticket following the traffic lol, this is specific to quebec)

Even in NB we have 2 lanes divided highways that you can see 2-5 kilometers in front, yet the speed limit is still 110km/h.

The 4 lanes highway was used as an example, we do have those highway in this country and the speed limit is still limited to 110km/h. I stated example of bad driver to show why those speed limits aren't higher. I realize it might of been going a little off the direct topic, but for sleepy me at 3am it didn't at the time. I just gets under my skin that so much is being done to scare people from speeding, laws, commercial, various things involving cops (talking to school, accident recreation,...). I don't mean to say those aren't all good, but is driving slower their solution to solve every accident.

I know this doesn't applies to where this incident has happen, it was directed at what happened ( not the speed ,but the use of the street racing law that applies anywhere in Canada ). I know people think 50 over is a lot, but where I live we have a certain place called wheeler boulevard, it's a traffic circle, when you come from the highway (110km/h) usual traffic speed is 120km/h, you come downhill to a speed limit of 60km/h. I have stop counting the number of people that have been pulled over there, it's just ridiculous. This law means that if someone is going 120km/h, and START to slow down at the sign, he could be clocked between 50-60 km/h over. And there for, he must have been street racing, don't think I' making this up, I know a COUPLE of people that got pulled over (ALL BY THE SAME COP), handed a hefty fine and told off by the cop that they should consider them self lucky he didn't take their car. I know he didn't, but it's the fact he could have. These weren't kids driving, it was responsible adults (25+) with clean (well clean before this) or pretty clean (might have had a fine or two nothing serious) driving record.

And falcon here is a little taste of my dream world.

It would have mandatory driver ed course on dedicated tracks ( doesn't need to be big, at least it's not on public roads), you wouldn't be able to drive on the road before you had graduated and your license in hand. This would mean that there would have to be more tracks, partially funded by the government. Unfortunately this would mean that it would cost a little bit more to get your license, probably somewhere around 1-2 k which is still much less than a lot of other country. Yes this would deter some people from getting there license and stop some people from EVER getting it. It would also mean more people would have to take public transport and there would be a little bit less traffic. Every time your license would expire you would need to got get reevaluated, to get up to speed on thing that might have change, update your physical (like eye test), but also a reflex test (it wouldn't be necessarily hard, maybe just a simulated accident) Just hard enough to get people to realize how quickly a kid can run on the road and how fast you need to react.

This dream world, would mean much better driver, more people using public transport (less traffic), the license would cost a little bit more, but you would get more in return, it would also cost more every time you changed your license (couldn't see it be more then 500$/5yrs really), but these extra cost could easily be offset by cheaper insurance in the long run. Yet we would have more tracks around, not drag race track but track where auto-x, ..... could be perform. The worst parts is this dream world is attainable financially, unfortunately not politically.

Maritime highways are 110? Wtf. 401 is 100 (generally moves at 140 regardless until you hit traffic lmao).
