  • My frustration with western humanity.

Why is it in todays day and age no one is capable of talking to one another face to face? With txting so popular, and the use of IM's, it seems people have given up hope on the common conversation for the digital screen, or the phone. No body talks to their neighbours any more, and heaven forbid you talk to some one in the grocery store! Your either singled out as some creep trying to pick up chicks, or a weirdo.

This brings me to the one thing that ruined my birthday yesterday...

I had the pleasant surprise yesterday of answering my front door to a gentleman who worked for the city of Oak Bay, which had received a complaint about my cars in the driveway. It was promptly brought to my attention that I had 15 hours to either A) insure vehicles for road use, or B) remove them from my driveway. Thankfully the gentleman could see that I was in the middle of swapping an interior, and drivetrain over to my new rolling shell and felt bad for me. He agreed to give me 'till Monday at 8am to have them running, or off the property. Not a whole lot of time either way, but at least it's better than nothing.

Would it have been so hard to come talk to me about this first??! I did my best to meet all my neighbours when I moved in, and when I had a new years party, I even left a note in the mail box of every one in a 2 house radius saying my intentions, estimated guest list size, time the party would be over, and contact info incase there was a problem. Who ever this person is can clearly see that I'm not leaving body panels laying around, or other random parts just sitting in my driveway which would make the property look bad. Is it too much to ask that if my hobby is causing you grief, that you would come over to my house and we could calmly discuss a peaceful resolution to this?

Now I have the pleasure of towing my vehicles to a shop that can finish what I'm clearly not allowed to finish. Some times people just piss me off.

Put a trap on them. They can not come onto your property to check if they are insured. One would say out of sight out of mind.

On a side note, I agree. Come talk it out, I'm sure there is a reasonable solution

Just stick plates on them, when I first bought my gtr the first 9 months it was unplated and uninsured, I just stuck extra random plates on it that way they can't complain

I assuming your live in a Town house Complex.. with a Strata of some kind..

People are so anal in area's like that.. and they never talk to anyone face to face.

This reminds me of what i got a couple years ago:

I had the fenders off my car, and it was on jack stands..
and this wasnt in a town house complex.

It happens often, people in the neibourhoods don't like seeing parts cars (cause that's what they sometimes look like sorry to say) in the front of other's houses, makes the area look less pretty I guess.

I had to build a garage to get away from things like this. Or, if you park in the back, it's less of an issue. I've heard of people getting another's fence torn down or trees pulled out cause it hurt the neibourhood image and it worked.

It's a community thing sadly. Build a garage!!!!

I feel your pain man, I went through the same thing last summer. The city enforcement guy gave me more time though, as the whole rear subframe, suspension, and brakes were off the car. Just my luck that my next door neighbour would be the only one who had a problem with the car work on driveway.

So by their definition, an unlicensed vehicle that can move is a restricted item, but an unlicensed vehicle with a blown starter would be considered a wrecked vehicle?

I would get the car to the position where it is possible to move under it's own power, take the matter to court stating that it's a restricted item (not a wrecked vehicle) and then spray paint the thing safety orange just to piss off whoever called by-law on you.

I've had to use the letter of the law against my region on more than a few occasions, and I always came out on top.

                        Best of luck.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!! id say im sorry for laughing and waking my roommate up, but damn dude this made me laugh off my seat

you live in oak bay and you are surprised by this???? come on man you should have known what you were getting into when you moved there... its the snobiest area of victoria, by living there you are to maintain a certain standard of living and having numerous cars in your drive way is an eye sore to the people of oak bay...

to those who are all " ya stick it to the man " " put a tarp on it " etc etc etc.... you obviously DO NOT live anywhere near victoria nor do you understand how the city is... oak bay is the old money rich part of victoria, you have to rake your leaves off your yard or you get finded... you have to have nice looking vehicles or you get fined...

while i agree that someone should have said something to you first, YOU should have known the local bylaws... By-law enforcement in oak bay is heavily enforced and the officers drive around handing tickets and notices out... chances are none of your neighbors said anything at all...

also what would you have done if someone had come to you and told you, not asked you, to get your junkers out of sight? most likely you would have taken offence to it and words could have easily been exchanged and then you would have a whole new problem... while yes to us its a simple lil hobby we all love, we dont see our parts cars as junkers or eye sores... but it is not us whom we offend with such actions...

ultimately this will be a continued problem for you in the future, my best piece of advice is to move out of oak bay... go hit up sannich cheaper houses and your neighbors arent stuck up rich hoity toity snobs!!!!
How many kids with A.D.D. does it take to screw in a light bulb?
