To hopefully put an end to reoccurring and pointless threads, along with the irrelevant comments in them, I am going to put everything that I have learned in the 5 years of "researching" insurance for RHDs into this thread. I can say that while I am a young guy, I have not only been around Skylines since grade school, but my family and I have been in the insurance/collision industry since before I was born. I know this stuff because I am constantly in contact with not only ACTUAL insurance companies and their execs (not rookie salesmen), but just about every forum-dwelling member in Southern Ontario.
So, without further ado, here is the best collection of RHD insurance info for Ontario (SPECIFICALLY THE GREATER TORONTO AREA). Barring an act of God, this info will be as accurate as you'll find. Insurance companies will NEVER voluntarily decide to loosen the stranglehold they have on the RHD market, so companies may decide to cut RHD policies. The only way any of these companies will help the RHD owners out is if they are forced to by the provincial government...if they decide to step in. I just can't see how a government can stand by as companies charge roughly 2-3 times MORE to someone living in ontario, than the same company charging the same "person" (age, car, all details the same) in another province. One of my good friends paid less than half of what our province pays for his skyline....he was 17 and the car was under HIS name....with FULL coverage?!?! for less than $200 a month. That blows my freakin' mind considering Facility would quote someone like him over $600 per month....for LIABILITY ONLY?! come on now
Anyways here we go. Two sections. Under and over 26.

You're in a great spot! Many options.
- Lant or Hagerty offer collector or "silver wheels" policies (if you have a daily car) for as little as a few hundred dollars per year, full coverage. Appraisal required, sometimes these policies carry KM limits.
- While a lot of the big insurance companies have cut RHD policies, some still offer them if you have been a previous customer. As of 6 months ago, Allstate and Statefarm insured these cars ONLY if you have a second vehicle with them AND you've been with them for at least 6 months. Rates aren't too bad....comparable to what you'd pay for a newer family sedan (from what I've been told). However, anything other than "decorative" mods are a big no-no (policies will be cancelled).
- Facility....will always take you. however, age isnt really a factor with them. You pay based on your risk rating (usually your driving record). However, since RHD cars are satanic death machines, you will be looking at upwards of $400 a month for liability only.
-And finally, you have the smaller, "family-owned" sized companies that are usually found by brokers. I know of a few people outside of the gta (otherwise known as the worst insurance area in the country) that are with these smaller companies. Unfortunately, for anyone within an hour of toronto, this is not an option.

LOL.
I don't mean to sound pessimistic, being as I am 20 myself...but unfortunately there isn't much out there for us. At all.
- We DO NOT qualify for any collector policy. For those collector policies, you need to have 10 years of licensed driving experience. Whether that period starts when you acquire your G1, G2, or G, I am not sure.
- Same #2...if you have been with Allstate/Statefarm, take 'er for a boost. You'll pay quite a bit (based on age + RHD).
- Then we get to facility...heres where my LOL comes in. Upwards of $500 per month for simple liability. However, you wont be turned down due to RHD.
- The "under a family member" routine. I do this with my daily driver as I cannot afford insurance for the car being under my name. If you do plan to do this, the family member (has to be over 26 for it to make any sense) cannot have a car in their name....its hard to explain. For every car in the house, there has to be a primary driver. Just say there are 3 cars and 3 people in a house. Most insurance companies will argue that each car has to have a primary driver, meaning one person cant own all 3 and have the other two just being secondary drivers. Sometimes this isnt the case as the insured will argue that they are their own cars and not their kids, etc etc.
Heres the stinger I'm sure every kid is thinking, because I have thought of it too, and had very close friends actually DO it to be shut down.
You cannot insure these cars under a parent using a collector policy, and just drive it yourself. Collector policies are strict. Each policy covers ONLY the primary driver. If someone else is caught driving the car, chances of losing your policy are very high. If you're in an accident and you aren't the primary driver, I am pretty sure you won't be covered, as each policy owner signs off on being the sole driver of the car. (you have to write a little short essay for these, its practically like you're interviewing for the policy lol)
I hope I have been of some assistance. I would like to stress once more that posting comments about how cheap your insurance is is completely irrelevant and does nothing to help the people that are looking for this info. No province is the same as what us in the Greater Toronto Area are going through.....Jeesh, even people IN ontario (outside of the GTA) pay peanuts compared to us.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment here or PM me. I don't know EVERY single companies procedures regarding RHD vehicles, so I have only commented on the ones I do know about (which still covers most of whats out there).
Happy motoring.
