Well the FSCO (financial services commision of ontario) got back to me friday. A man by the name of TONY LYON. His comment-

"I have approved the underwriting rules of the insurance companies in ontario. Some (not all) have submitted the request NOT to insure RHD vehicles. I approved this rule based on "COMMON SENSE". No statistical information is required. We do not require companies to provide ANY EXPLAINATION for rules. If it makes sense to me, than that is ok."

He also stated that I should call the all of insurance companies listed in Ontario (on the FSCO website) because they have not ALL stopped insuring RHDs.
Wow. I missed that one. Someone likes to play God. I'd like to hear his definition of "COMMON SENSE"..
Sheesh, if THAT'S the mentality we're dealing with then hope seems lost.

I find it VERY hard to believe that this is what was said, especially in such a manner.

It's possible, but very unprofessional, and still does not answer the question of why are these vehicles legally imported, carry valid Ontario registrations, pass a valid Ontario safety standards certificate and STILL be unable to find insurance without paying through the roof.

I don't want to bring this thread OT, but Quebec is in the same boat as Ontario.

Albeit insurance prices are overall cheaper in Quebec, we're getting seriously raped on RHD now. Unless you have an existing policy, good luck getting insured with anybody else than the Facility equivalent in Quebec (Lloyds/Universel, which are the same company). My insurance went from 300$ a year to 1500$ because my old company dropped me stating "increase in risk". I'm 30 years old, no claims or tickets, and my GT-R is not my daily driver.

The answer does seem a little off...perhaps the poster on that forum wanted to make Tony seem worse than he really is. Maybe someone should try to get in touch with him?

Did a bit more research..if you look at the link posted above, that was a more recent org. chart from January of 2013.

I found this one from September 2011 and there is a man by the name of Willie Handler, it looks like he left the job there to start a consulting firm:

He might be the right guy for us to speak to and gain insight on the RHD situation at FSCO...hes got Twitter and a BlogSpot! Seems very active on both. It would be great to get a non-standard answer that many people are getting from FSCO.

Did they give any reason? Did this happen when you renewed? Like did they say they couldn't renew you or was it random midterm?

I recieved my renewal package same as every year, yet everything was there except the Pajero, as if it never existed.

No phone calls first, no letter, no notes in the package. Even my broker was unaware of it when I called to question it's whereabouts.
Then, later on I get a call back, from my broker saying that they (GORE MUTUAL) aren't renewing RHD vehicles on any of their policies.
Nothing happened to bring it on, no claims, NOTHING. I have always kept everything up to date on all my ****, like appraisals, safties (I do them every year). Plus I'm 35, and also a commercial driver with over 1.56 million miles logged all over NA, accident free, spotless record.
So anyone with GORE MUTUAL, BE WARNED.

It's total descrimination against the vehicle, NOTHING more.
Doesn't matter where the fawking steering wheel is, it's the PERSON behind the wheel that tells it what to do.
The VEHICLE doesn't pass on its own when it's not safe. The VEHICLE doesn't make left turns even if it can't see....
Last I checked, machines can't make judgement calls......
Sorry there I go ranting again....

I do however have a lead on a new complete policy, and SO FAR the underwriters for that company said no problem for the Pajero.
I didn't ask about Skylines as right now it's not needed, but the answer was.....yeah RHD thats no problem, just need the appraisal and photos. I also stated that all my business will be moved to them as well, not sure if that helped or not.
Still waiting on the complete rate quote as this was just today.

This is a total FSCO issue.
They should NOT be approving these denial filings based solely on the vehicle. That would then force companies to just classify them, and everybody wins. They get the money, we get the coverage we have a legal right to.

Any progress on this? I had my '33 insured with Lant 2 years ago, and because I wasn't really driving it I cancelled The policy... When I called them back to renew it yesterday they said they wont insure it. I called Allstate where my house and my wifes truck is insured, and they initially said yes, but then said no. Not sure what to do here.

Facility - $2750/year for my Pajero. WTF, has to be a joke. The insurance on my commercial truck with cargo and liabilty in 50 states plus all of Canada is cheaper than that horse ****.

New Company -$923/year based on 12,500 appraisal.
                        Wife's Mazda - 1100/year

                        Both full coverage.

Policy doesn't start until my house appraisal is done, and current policy runs out in June.
So I'm not saying much else till the paperwork is in my hands, but so far so good. (Well, as good as it can be...)

It's because facility is a company who mainly insures high risk drivers. Their rates are much higher. I was stuck with them for three years. Coulda bought a second skyline for the money I paid them for insurance. Use them only as a last resort

If that is per year, thats actually a pretty decent quote.
