I actually wanted to buy that kit to do a conversion with. Use it for a season, get everything fitted, then the following winter, copy the maifold and get a better turbo if this one died.Originally posted by mcfly View Post
OBX is a pretty old US company, so their stuff can't really be that bad.

obx has been making a really good name for themselves lately. i would use thier manifold but not the turbos..... yet(lol)Originally posted by JD74 View PostI actually wanted to buy that kit to do a conversion with. Just my 2cents.
I used an OBX manifold for my 4g63 for the season that just past, I was using it with my 35R , And like some of you guys I though i'd give OBX a chance but I was wrong.
I was able to lap the car only four times this year and the runner that comes off the manifold to the wastegate (41mm) fell off, the welds around it cracked.
It wasnt my "buddy's" car, it was my car, I dont drive the car in the daily basis and dont drive the car in the winter. so we can say I ran the car for about 1000 kilometers if so before that thing broke.
So I guess I can say now, what I was told before I bought it.
Spend your money ones, if you ask me I can tell you it is not worted, If you are buying from canada, You have to pay shipping, Customs, brokarages fees, Its all a waste of money.
Like I said, just my two cents.

Why... you don't like quick spool with the capability of 600AWHP?Originally posted by dawgmode View Postcuz stock sucks man. im pouring all this money into building the block so i refuse to use these stock turbos and i dont want to use a twin setup any more
gt2860's boy...
I don't understand the whole "going single" BS... slow spool, and a PEAKY torque band = undriveable.

lol... you have a few things to learn. Show me this "$400" manifold? does it say XS or SS or OBX on it?Originally posted by dawgmode View Postwell the manifold is 400, the gate about another 400, the oil lines about 140, and i can get my local muffler shop to fab up a downpipe for me...that wont be an issue
if you want to even come close to using the power of a single, you're going to need a fully built block, fuel system/large injectors/FPR/2 fuel pumps, a BIG intercooler, cams, cam gears, an ECU, BIG exhaust..
seriously, you don't have any idea what you're getting into.

Bcz the sound of a wastegate opening ........no twins can match..........Originally posted by falcon View PostWhy... you don't like quick spool with the capability of 600AWHP?

Honestly, you just need to pull your head out of your ass if you think a 60-1 is going to have slow spool and a peaky torque band. A 60-1 is capable of a bit more power than 2860R-5's, and with a .81 housing would likely spool as fast, if not faster. You're gaining efficiency because you only have one compressor and turbine, and you have a more direct exhaust outlet. Two turbos means two shafts, and 4 wheels, instead of one shaft and two wheels. More rotating mass means if you had equivalent exhaust flow you'd see slower spool. Put a .58 A/R housing on the back of this 60-1 (which would be fairly relative to a pair of .64 A/R T25 housing) and it would probably spool up faster than stock turbos.Originally posted by falcon View PostWhy... you don't like quick spool with the capability of 600AWHP?

A 60-1 isn't a greddy T88 :hit newb:1990 Skyline GT-R - Jet Silver Metallic
It'll run someday

I'm the last person who needs an explanation on single turbos.
no matter what, it's proven that two smaller turbos will out spool a larger one and still flow enough CFM to make big HP. Sure if your power goal is only 400HP, then a smaller single will do you better, but if you want any kind of decent power... two smaller turbos will be the better choice.
at .58 housing will choke a big engine like the RB26... backpressure is not your friend.
the ONLY reason to go single is if you want 600+ WHP. Anything less and twins will be better.
Now if it's a drag car, then everything changes.

it WILL be a ss manifold cuz EVERYONE down here runs it wit NO problems ive been to moroso..everyone there runs them....yea u have a few bad ones but for the most part they work nicely, as a matter of fact my friend is running one on his 606rwhp to4z rb26 on a STOCK motor and he beats up on the car almost everyday and races at the track almost every weekend and hasnt had a hickup YET with that manifold
my block as we speak is getting fully built, Im running a power fc i have a sard fuel pump and 660 injectors already....I DO KNO WHAT IM GETTING INTO

the only reason to go single is to get rid of that rats nest of oil and water lines, that restrictive twin turbo pipe, vaccum hoses AND HEAT common now how close is the #1 turbo exhuast housing from the #2 intake again?!?!?!Originally posted by falcon View PostI'm the last person who needs an explanation on single turbos.
