  • Whats a running, early 89 high nickle longblock worth ?

I am gonna be pulling my engine out of the GTR to replace it with one i am building. What is a 1989 long block worth? Block and Head in great running condition 95,000 kms one owner car eg. No turbos, oil pan, intake or valve covers. I know this is the discussion area i just want to get a idea if its worth selling?

apparently NOT the high nickel block. Block was from the 1551'st built GTR in October of 1989
    Trust T618Z,Carrillo Rods,CP Pistons,Tomei 280 10.8 lift ProCams, Tomei Spec C Springs, N1 Block, ARP, ATI, ATL, Bosch 044,Sard 800cc,PFC,Z32 etc.......

How do you know it's a high nickel block? I'm guessing there are those who'd snap it up if was really a "homologation special" block.

I gather your GTR is build no 001551???

Only the first 500 1989 GTR's (build number 000001-000500) supposedly had the stronger shortblock. I've only seen 1x of the first 500 1989 GTR's in real life and it looked like every other stock GTR.

From what I understand, on the R35GTR V6 motor they put a plasma coating on the bores, because they couldn't fit sleeves due to thin walls on shortblock (supposedly recommended by Cosworth). The new GTR engine is said to be the same engine as found in the 350Z, etc, but bored out to 3.8litre.

Maybe you could get the plasma coating done on RB26 N1 shortblock to strengthen cylinders??? Plasma coating was supposedly used on Ford engines, so there must be place in the US that can do it.

As far as I know a N1 shortblock is one of the rare good stock shortblocks (I gather xrayed, sonic tested, etc) with enlarged watergallery's to prevent shortblock from cracking. Same watergallery enlargement mods with N1 head, but N1 head has slightly different camtiming but same spec cams.

In this photo you can see the stock RB26 shortblock cracks on edge of water gallery -

From what I understand, cracking a shortblock happens when there's cool coolant / water running through a hot shortblock. That's why you let engine cool down before flushing shortblock with water.

Next stage up from N1 shortblock was the Group-A shortblocks. Very rare shortblock.

The N1 block could be cast from a different material but there are other improvements. Supposedly better flowing oil galleries, thicker webbing, thicker bores, that sort of thing.
