  • WTF? How does this happen??

Had a boost leak appear at the end of last season. It was getting to cold to start removing things withoit breaking them so I left it. Well yesterday I had some spare time so I figured id investigate. I knew it was coming from t he dump valve area on my r33 gtr. So instead of removing the bumper I just removed the Inner fender well. Made it a little restricted but I was able to see everything. And boy did I fi d my boost leak

At first I thought I had blown the gasket out.

Upon further investigation I noticed this awesomw crack

So I proceeded to remove the dump valve assy and it was worst then I thought

The flange has snaped in half. I thought the stock valves were good for more then 15 psi??

Probably cold conditions has made the metal brittle and combine with higher boost pressures, held down by bolts x2, has made the metal crack where it has. Also flaws in the metal probably were part of what made the metal fail.

always good to find something that is actually broken and fixable.. it sucks when your chasing a ghost so to speak.. should be able to get one of those for cheap and get back on the road. or maybe some aftermarket goodies are in order

        Never seen them do that!
Looks like stress cracking....tighten down too much to make up for re-used gasket??

I have a spare OEM valve assy if you want to go with it again...be cheap if you want it..
