Regarding your high idle. Did you clean your throttle plates and remove the black material that was on the peripheries? If you did tha is the source of your high idle. I made the same mistake.
If not (fingers crossed) try spraying brake cleaner around the throttle plate hinge bushings and other suspect areas to see if the idle goes up. If it does you found your leak.

It sounds like a tach issue to me. 5seconds to drop is a lot, it should be pretty much instantaneous
