Ugh being out of town for work sucks. Next week can't come fast enough.

Anyone have any tips for first start up of a new motor and break in techniques.

      Pics of course

I notice you are still using the stock balancer, but after spending a bunch of money on the motor I would think it is very worth while to buy a new one?

I would remove spark plugs and and loosen turbo oil line and crank until oil comes out the line close the line then again until you get oil pressure I would call that primed.. not sure for break in

well lots has happened since ive last updated this thread.!
                here she goes.
I finished up installing the motor and building a downpipe, and fabing up the wastegate position. filled her up with oil fired it up! Brent (nimblestix) came over and helped me sort out the AEM and get it so she would run.

Finally got her out of the garage, first time since i bought it 5 ish months ago.

then a few laps around the block and 2 oil changes later.... the oil pan was leaking badly and after tear down the front main was also leaking.

sooo pulled the motor back out. after pulling the pan off, it appeard that the oem gasket maker that came with my engine gasket set had no set up and was still sticky. mind you this had been on for a month and still did not harden, so i think it had gone bad on the shelf somehow. so DONT USE OEM GASKET MAKER!
resealed the oil pan and replaced the front main (looked like an installation error) and threw a new throw out bearing in it and back in she went!
got it down to about 4 hours install and 4 for removal now lol

installed the oil pan like this, my buddy lending a hand.

then i managed to drive her down to racing greed for a much needed break in tune!
she put down 342whp on their mustang dyno, about 400whp on a dynojet at 12psi of boost and with a factory cat.
then enjoyed the rest of the day by heading to thursday night bryne meets and cruising around with my buddies.

managed to put on about 600kms in the 2 days i had her insured.
                everything good so far.

as of tonight also ive just ordered twin walbro 400 E85 fuel pumps and about 300$ worth of teflon lines and fittings. god it gets expensive fast as im sure most of you know.
ill be mounting both pumps in tank, merging into a single -8an line all the way to the rail, then a -6an return line with an aeromotive fuel pressure regulator. ill be adding an AEM fuel pressure sensor into the regulator as well. for added safety in case one of the pumps decides to prematurely fail.

as you can probably tell ill be running E85 and cranking the boost up to around 30psi. im guessing it will make just shy of 700awhp. i will be setting up a flex fuel tune, daily driven on pump gas around 500whp then fill her up with some corn on weekends!

I just found out my local airport has a plane engine reman place that is willing to sell me a 45 gallon drum of AV gas for $1.90/L. I just tried out a small sample (10 gallons) in my car and it really likes it. A 50/50 mix with 94 and I should be able go to 24psi. Then I am totally out of injector (1000cc). The sour mash should be good for at least a 150hp bump over pump fuel.

Hey Jon, I've been interested in trying av gas too, wasn't sure if it would be alright considering is so heavily leaded. I know that's what the old bugs would run on and old race cars though... Anyways my mother in law is a pilot, has a plane and a hanger at pitt meadows YPK. Might get av gas a bit cheaper, maybe I can help you out with some drum prices. Mind you I guess the distance factor might null any price differences.

                    I'll check into it!

Sorry for off topic on your thread Nick! Can't wait to drive with you!!

AV gas = bye bye O2 sensors. Possibly valve seat damage.
AV Gas proper name is 110 Low Lead. I would recommend doing some research before using it.

                        Jon your crazy!
Well slight change of plans, decided against e85, just a bit too costly at the moment and driving an hour just to fill up doesn't sound too appealing,

Decided to build an exhaust last night aswell , existing 3'' downpipe too full 4'' cat back,
It's stupid loud now, definatly needs a muffler on the end of it
                        Yes it's made from steel

It actually tucks up incredibly well,
Lots of ground clearance even being slammed on 17's

                        Before trimming the tip,

Thats some RB Music Love Cannon right there...lol.

The 100LL has lead in it, but less than race fuel. It will not harm anything in the motor. It is not "DRY", as some people claim. It will ruin your CAT, but no-one making serious power has one. It will make the O2s lazy after a while but, that will take all summer with only a 50/50 mix. All you need to do is run some unleaded for a tank and they are fine again...the lead burns off. The fuel will gunk up plugs after about half the time as unleaded but, no-one making serious power leaves the same plugs in for 5 years.

The best part is the fuel is PON rated at 104 at stoich but 114 at "rich" which in aviation lingo is 12-1 a/f. Thats the PON # again, the RON is 130(!). So far I have only needed to go to 20% mix to run 19psi with no knock..about where I was woth Tolulene...but at 1/3 the cost. Tolulene is now $20/gal. 100LL... it smells awesome out the tailpipe....lol.

Kind of a similar thing to whats been going on here in the lower mainland lately, add 10% of e85 from the arcade gas station into chevron 94 and boom 50-100whp gain, much more knock resistant with that extra 10%

Me on the other hand, I will be sticking to methanol injection, used it with good luck on my previous car, this time around I'll have the aem ems set up with a few failsafes, not just winging it.

Well since I ordered all the Teflon lines and such before I decided against going all out flex fuel tune, I'm now stuck with 300$ worth of lines and fittings that "I may as well install" ya know

I have always wondered why they went full bore on the ethanol, you could easily go with 15% content with newer cars and have no issues at all. Older than 1995 might need some tweeking but I dont think many would be affected. I added 15% meth to my fuel once just to see how bad it would be and it didnt want to idle but under power it was fine. Bumped up the global fuel trim a touch and it would idle again. Methanol is much lighter than Ethanol, I was still quite lean everywhere but because of the major cooling affect and knock supression I still had no knock and the EGTs were quite cool...lean. Wish we had our pump back up here, the city was playing with a test fleet of Ethanol vehicles about 18 years ago and when the test was over after 2 years, the pump went bye-bye.

Good looking fuel system though, should outlast the car.

update time! picture heavy as usual

                                installed the fuel system
heres the walbro 450 E85 version installed

the -8 bulkhead fitting on top of the tank lid

and the areomotive fpr and inline filter down there as well .

methanol system installed. -4 braided line from the pump to nozzle. snow performance solenoid and aem's largest jet
cooling mist pump in the back with aem's 1 gal tank all controlled with the EMS

Had racing greed fab up an intake for my turbo

4''-6'' velocity stack and K&N filter as well as the new Tial Q50 BOV which i think looks soo good

shot of the bay, you can see the boost solenoid all plumbed in here

all installed just in time to hit the dyno...
day started out pretty good, talking with the tuner chatting about how to set up the hi / low boost switch ect, power goals, a few of my friends came out as well to hang and shoot the ****.
so started off with a baseline pull on the current tune, which did 342whp mustang original, now was doing 390whp with the only change being the 4'' exhaust. things were looking good, he started raising the rev limiter from 7000 up to 8100, was making 450, but unfortunately boost was creeping up to around 17psi and the motor was knocking. pretty upsetting as i wanted to have that low boost setting with no methanol for road racing and around town.

but we continued, Methanol always on now and just high boost setting. Things were going good again raising boost slowly, managed to get up to 24psi falling down to 22 at redline, she put down 585 mustang which is 675awhp dynojet. At this point we were forced to stop as the car would no longer go into gear and my clutch making all sorts of different noises. They think i had the clutch pedal adjusted improperly and possibly fuzed my clutch together .

so that was the end of the day, although i was upset the car was broken I was still pretty pumped that it made the power that it did and the motor held together ! 4000kms on the engine so far and things are looking good.

My first time in 3 years of owning my old gtst and this gtr that i ever had to get towed home. its a pretty terrible feeling i must say

                                (Tariq from RG ^ )

So now to pull it all out again and inspect the clutch damage, as well as revise the waste gate and manifold set up to be more efficient. need that low boost setting.
