  • Project r32, need help getting it running

    Hi everyone, new to the forum and having a hard time with my gtr, long story short;

The car will crank but not start, out of the 10 tries it did manage to groan to life on the 8th try, but we tried again and it went right back to square 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vea0lyTs3o Here's a video of an attempt, maybe someone has had a similar problem before?

Upon some inspection i also found a rogue hose but no idea as to where it leads http://imgur.com/a/69UzT if somebody could identify it for me that would also be fantastic

I'm pretty sure your mystery hose is for your windshield washer.
As for your car not starting. More info would help with diagnosing.
Have you tried checking for codes in the ecu?
    Do you have spark?
    Do you have fuel?
What has been done to the car?
Do you have a service manual?
I just watched your vid. It sounds like there's no compression or your cam timing is way off.
I would speculate that if you have tried that many times and the injectors are firing you've flooded the cylinders with fuel and will want to change your oil.

As far as the mystery hose i think that'll be a pretty quick thing to check next time i'm at the car.

The old timing belt snapped at idle, friend who had the car at the time heard an unusual noise and shut the car off, only to confirm his suspicion of a broken belt, just not the one he had hoped for. He needed a car so i traded him my old s13 for his skyline and i went ahead and retimed it and cranked it by hand. now i'm here.

I only have an OBD2 code reader :/

As for spark that might be the main cause of our non starting problems because we know for sure it's delivering fuel, as i mentioned in my first post, it did manage to start and idle for a few seconds before we realized the harmonic balancer was not on and shut the car off, so compression is most likely not our issue but it is possible my cam timing is off and i'm not going to rule that out.

I'll probably pick up some oil and a filter today, thanks for the reply

If the timing belt had broken you most likely bend some valves, you better check compression, and at the same time look at your spark plugs, im pretty sure by now they must be covered with gas!!

Whatched your video - you most likely bend all valves and by the sound of it you have 0 or VERY VERY LOW compression in all cylinders! Unless you install timing belt few teeth off, but, this is GTR and MIRACLES here not happening very often!(

KINDA very poor way to start up a project thread...

I'm going to throw my vote in on bent valves and possibly damage pistons due to stuck open valves as well. If timing belt snapped even running for a little while would damage some of em, and trying again without checking em out would have just caused more damage =\.

Aye, Sorry about the poorly done thread, i'll test compression and double check all my spark plugs and post an update

If the belt snapped while running how can it not have bent most of not all valves? The cranking sounds no compression at all...

I think this thread should be moved to GTR-DISCUSSION or GTR-TECH section of the forum.
