  • hey btw: the engine is finally on its way from AUS,
but in the mean time i got somemore goodies !

custom LED panel that we made for rear license plate lights

    then
    (btw: this ugly GTR isn't mine...it's a buddies i used...LOL)

this is a moke up of the spoiler stands i am making with a CNC machine.
the original one were too lay back, and too low...so this is a copy of the Voltex spoiler stand. and over all, it's 28inches tall...not too high but just enough.
i will have the real thing made up by next week !

    then

i ditched the original carbon center console plate i had made a year ago when the car is dead...i thought the last project center console was already perfect...but well the car has been sitting for a year...things gets old even you don't drive it..so i am going to update alittle of it
changing the original carbon plate to a more expensve carbon kevlar one, the placment of the machines will be different as well..
i am thinking about sticking, a push start button, some led lights, toggles, boost controller, yoshio factory water temp and other useless guages in there as well...seems like there's more BS in it..but i am asure you, it will more clean then the first version. then i realized the center glovebox lid doesn't match...so i am making that in CFK as well

    then
the RED Bride seats are gone...in replace is a set of blk gradation Zeta 3 in L
i have gotten made fun of so much ..cuz my car looks like a JDM wanna be integra Type R...so decided to change.
btw: i have Vios 3 for sale, they are new..but don't fit me..so i went ahead and bought the zetas in L.
    pic soon !

oh also when my 80mm defi tach comes in, i am ripping my oem 300km cluster out and sticking a tach, oil pres and boost in replace of the oem unit..with carbon kevlar as a back ground !!
    that will be very soon

Most, if not all, accounts of N1 oil pump failures include either bouncing off the rev limiter (around 8000 rpm) or intentionally exceeding 8000 rpm as is typical with RB26s making over 600-800 hp.
The guys at XS Engineering have said on this board that the N1 is suitable for mid power builds up to around 400 hp.
On other boards, higher pressure pumps such as Nismo, Jun, and Tomei have been reported to create other problems related to higher flow through the restrictor orifice to the head. Oil can pool in the head if return galleries are not opened up enough resulting in low oil levels in the sump.
Please note that I'm reporting information gleaned mostly from Skylines Australia and do not have any first hand experience with high pressure pumps. However, one skill I've picked up in my short fat happy life is recognizing good information even if it's mixed in with a pile of BS. :-) I can tell you that some pretty reliable guys on SAU have struggled with oil management quite a bit, and a high end oil pump all by itself is not the answer to all RB26 oil delivery issues!
If anyone has first hand experience and techincal details on this issue, I'd love to hear it!

      Cheers,
      Dan
with the oil stuck in the head issue..which is common for high hp rb's
i am planning to stick a external oil return light from head to block,...it will be a stainless line..duh...but i hope this will help the issue.
also i drilled some little holes in the buffles in the back side of the engine cover, hopping the oil can flow outa it faster.
      hope that helps

the first one i got from you "the normal carbon" was thicker and is better to make a center console ! as it is thicker and doesn't flex.
but damn i want a blue one !

                    • I don't know why you'd want to shortchange yourself on spinning an RB30 to only 6500 or 7000 RPM's. The stroke on an RB30 is still 1mm shorter than an SR20DET or even a 2JZ-GTE, and those things SPIN and make power well past 7000 RPM's. You're not going to have a very great powerband shifting at 6500 or 7000 with a greddy T78, just my opinion.

Where did you get those carbon vents for the N1 bumper though? Love that!

I remember reading a while ago that the RB30 has harmonics issues at about 7500. I think it was on one of the Australian boards. That could be why.

                          • Good thing we know so much about the bottom ends in question there. I bet if you took that guy who's having his CAS readings off, and zero balanced his bottom end with mallory and put something like an ATI fluidampr on there he would have absolutely zero issues.

The thing is, from what I understand the harmonics issue wasn't curable by balancing. It was something inherent in the bottom end (crank or otherwise). An ATI damper is definitely a good idea though.

In any event, Sean also makes a good point about piston speed in the RB26 vs. RB30, which is another reason why people would probably want to stay lower down in the RPMs. One final point is that the extra displacement of the RB30 definitely helps with the spool of the turbo, in fact a considerable amount from what I've read on the Aussie boards, so high revving won't be as big an issue with an appropriately sized turbo. I don't think he's staying with a T78 either, Felix has smartened up a bit.

Maybe Dan can chime in on the issue of harmonics, we've discussed it regarding the RB26 one time over lunch, and despite my best efforts, I'll defer to his tremendous knowledge of harmonics to explain it to us.

                              • with PROPER balancing of the crank...harmonics wouldnt be an issues..
but i am getting an ATI unit anyways because just like a painter painting a car, if he is having a shitty day, even the BEST Painted in the world can make mistakes....same reason apply to machining an engine.

How about we have a thread specific to the GTR conversion that covers: * the Rb26dett head build up to suit * Forged piston s...
