  • power steering belt

ok i tried and tried.. well not excessively but i tried to get it off... it looks like the belt tension adjuster is directly underneath the power steering pump itself but i tried loosening it and i cant get the assembly to move at all never mind enough to get the belt off... am i doing something wrong?

Did you loosen the M10 bolt that runs through the PS pump and bracket. It's on the top of the pump, and you have to align the pulley holes up with the bolt to access it. Once you loosen the tensioner, you actually have to push down on the PS pump to gain enough slack in the belt to take the belt off.

i think i see it, its the bigger one that is attached to the bracket thats attached to the side of the engine...? and if i loosen it will it push down once i adjust the tensioner bolt or do i have to take it right out?

no it cant be, i loosened the bolt thats at say 10 ocklock on the pump, top left corner of the circle and its facing the radiator, and the whole assembly is still very rigid in place

so i musta had it right with loosening that big bolt that goes through the bracket, it must just be seized in the bracket or something but ive put a fair bit of weight on it and it dont seem to move, ill keep trying though

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead.
but I'm having the exact same issue, I've loosened the tensioner, aligned the pulley and loosened the bracket bolt.
The power steering pump is still totally rigid and wont move at all.

              Is there something I'm missing?
I looked at the thread posted above with no luck.

Mine was quite stiff also, I used a crowbar for leverage and it was easy once it started, as long as u have the tensioner loose, the one kinda underneath intake, pointed towards the intake

So just to be totally clear, as long as the tensioner is loose and the big bolt where the pump pivots is loose then it is okay to put a lot of force on the pump to push it down?
I just want to make sure so I don't bend or break anything.

                  Cheers

                  PS
I'm doing this on an RB25DET

I took off the power steerig belt, put a new one on but now I can't get it to tension up again!
I tightened the tensior until it picked up most of the slack and then it reached a point where it was just spinning but not tightening the belt anymore, it's still far too loose...
The tensioner is not cross threaded.... not sure what happened there, any suggestions?
