  • I will be changing my transmission fluid, any advice?

Any advice or problems that I can solve before I start the fluid swap?

Any and all comments will be appreciated.

This is also my first time doing this :X

Do not poor it in through the shifter hole; use the filler on the side of the transmission. The gear shift goes into the transfer case.

The transfer case has 3 holes, a drain and two fill holes. Fill the lower one first then the upper one. Its also a ****ing mess so be careful don't get any in your eyes!!!

Also once your doing the job, do the diffs, transmission, and transfer case.

You can put the same oils in the two diffs and the transmission. Just the rear is a LSD so I would go with a LSD specific oil. I did heavy shockproof in transmission and front diff, motul 90pa in the rear diff, and Redline D4 Transaxle in the transfer case. Its expensive stuff but worth every penny!!!

Also loosen the fill hole first, then the drain.

What about Royal Purple MAXGEAR for the transmission. Any comments on Royal Purple? The Redline Shockproof is very hard to find in my area for some reason.

              great advice

go to cnd tire and buy a 2 way fluid pump. It will be red and well worth the money you spend.
Also get the oil warm, about 60c or so and it will pump like water.

I am assume that the oil warm just warms up the oil so its easier to work with. What does it look like and it would be used before putting the oil in the funnel?

you put one hoe in the fluid bottle, and the other hose into the fill hole.
then you pump by hand and it goes in. It's in the isle with the automotive funnels and stuff like that.

The royal purple maxgear is also good stuff. A lot of GTR guys swear by heavy shockproof. I like it but maxgear is good I'm sure. It's also probably cheaper then the heavy shockproof @ ~30$ for 1 litre. Royal Purple is quality stuff. Also like everyone else said fill though filler holes!

This was hidden at the bottom of Mitch's post, so I'm going to quote it / bold it / make it red for you

Don't want to drain it then find out you can't open the fill holes to fill it.

you wont wanna try using a funnel to fill the tranny, get the fluid transfer pump mcfly suggested.

I have been using Royal Purple for a little while now and I'm not happy with it. I'll be trying Redline MTL-90 next time (I think thats the right stuff).

It's extremely easy, to refil, use a hose with a funnel, and have the hose go up beside the car.

And let the fluids sit in the sun before putting them in, it will thin them out a bit and pour faster. It's only messing if you're retarded

does the car have to be level when refilling the transmission fluid???
