I love this thread, I finally bought a GTR this year and had Z tune build me a forged engine with a ton of A/M parts. I was skepticle of the power it would make. Everyone with a GTR is quick to say how fast they are once you modify them and tune them,I didnt believe it until I drove mine for the first time after it was finished being tuned. I can honestly say that a mildly tuned 470whp scared the **** out of me and continues to everytime I smash the right pedal.

A friend of mine has a 07 Mustang cobra with pulleys, tuner, short shifter, cams, intake exhaust ect ( this was the car I was racing when I melted my number 6 piston) so needless to say he was first on my kill list when I got my GTR home. Anyways sorry to ramble on I will get to the point - with in the first 60 feet the race was clearly over and I was more interested in listening to my cool new blow off valve since he was so far behind me you would have thought he forgot to start his car.

Long story short, with 400+ whp, bring on a bolt on modded Z06 or 07, I think on the street with a hard launch itl be nothing but a rich guy crying to his wife when its all over. Trying to explain to her why his $85,000+ car lost to a piece of "jap crap" haha I love it! And I cant wait until next summer when all the corvettes in my town hit the streets, theres a new animal in town.. some people call it Godzilla!

Forced induction and it'll be close? Maybe on an early 90's foxbody mustang, but the C5 vettes make about 330 RWHP stock, C5 Z06's make 350-380 RWHP stock, and C6's even more. A basic bolt on blower to a stock C5 and you can make 550 RWHP pretty easily. Takes some serious gonads to hang with that, even with AWD.

And an 07 "Cobra" would be a GT500 with the blown DOHC 5.4... those mods you listed would mean the car is making well north of 600 RWHP, so for you to beat him he just had to suck at driving. I'm pretty sure my girlfriend driving a car like that would rock a 470 WHP GTR on the street, just my 2 cents.

Straight line drags are great and everything but if I were you id add a few sharp corners in the mix and you should secure a clean victory hands down

I'm not sure of the 1/4 times for the Z06, but maybe he/she was just an inexperienced driver.

There are vids floating around where Z06's beat R35 GT-R's..

Yeah, everyone knows those 3100 pound Corvettes with aluminum engines, transmissions mounted in the rear for better weight distribution, and a really well designed IRS don't handle worth a crap.

A 12.8 would be pretty weak out of a new Z06. There was no 2005 Z06 produced, only 2001-2004 and then 2006 onwards. 01-04 had the LS6 with 385 or 405 HP, the 2006+ had the dry sump 7.0L LS7 with "505" horsepower.

When car and driver pulls off an 11.2 @ 122 in a stock Z06 on a tarmac, not a drag strip, that kinda shows you that a 12.5 is not exactly normal, especially out of a modded one.

^^ agreed with tokes nothing comparable to a well built V8 but in my previous post I said MOST AMERCAN V8's will suffer against an rb26 ie mustang gt, new challengers(too heavy) chevy camaros etc are not faster then a GTR by any means. Just a waste of displacement.
But again a well engineered v8 costs $$$$$$$. Most domestic automakers can't afford to fine tune every v8 they build.

                  BINGO!!

easier and cheaper to make larger displacement than fine tune and engineer a smaller one to make power.

tokes - Performance Specs from Wikipedia for the 07 Cobra mustang, yes the supercharged 5.4.
                    0-60 mph (0–97 km/h): 3.9-4.3
                    1/4 mile: 11.92s @ 120 mph (11.58 @ 122 mph (196 km/h) on drag radials)

Both of these times are recorded on a track with a professional driver. Not on the street. Yes he did have traction issues launching the car on the street but thats his problem not mine - sorry he didnt have awd. Am I sorry I kicked its ass with my new engine - not one bit Thats just another thing I love about having a GTR is the AWD. Racing these high horsepower cars like the Vettes and super charged mustangs arent fair on the street since they produce so much horse power and torque they have issues with traction. I agree on the track this is a completly different story.

Bottom line is we arent spending $80k + to hang with these huge american muscle cars. We all agree that a forced induction V8 is going to kick ass thats for sure but I wouldnt trade my built GTR for one ever. Our cars have history, character that cant be matched thats why we bought them.

That's a stock one - a pulley, tune, exhaust, and cams is worth about 150 RWHP on one of those cars. Hence my point that he probably just couldn't drive.

Not that I disagree with you. But... I'm pretty sure mustangs and corvettes have a fairly long and impressive history lol.

d23 boarder , sorry to get off the topic of youre original question. I think all you need to do is research what the corvette is capable of stock and then with after market parts. Determine how much you are willing to spend then seek advice on what engine modifications you should go with. The internet is a wonderful thing so you will find more then enough info. Ask fellow GTRC members on what you should include in youre build, there has been alot of engines built and tested amongst these members so everyone will have input. MOST IMPORTANTLY find a good engine builder !!!

                          Hope this helps.

hahaha yes Veldors thats true, especially the Vette ! The new ZR1 just scares me , talk about forced induction V8 holy the thing is out of control ! Iv never been a fan of the mustang since they have always been a mass produced **** box, I dont agree with building a 6 cylinder or old 4 cylinder models it just drives the resale value down. I like the fact I can drive around all day and not see one other GTR, but in the same drive see 50 mustangs. Personal opinion though. This is getting off topic to much so I quit adding to this. thanks guys
