  • Bloody Shipping damage

Hey guys, I have a lot of scratches/dents/rust on my car, and Im hoping I can repair these damages my self. I Know paint work would need to be done at a shop but please help the best you can! I also have paint fading on the drivers side roof and hood. Is a shop able to match my paint? It's suppose to be Bayside blue but the Gun metal was left underneath and now showing a bit causing the paint to have a darker tint to it.

If anyone has experience on body repairs please let me know how I can go about doing this and the materials I will need.

Here are the pictures. Sorry for so many of them.

dude. that entire car is FU<ked, holy crap.

    heres what i think happened:

those scratches and dents all happened at the same time. when the car was leaving the port onto the boat in japan. because its crossing the ocean the air is going to be a lil salty and such and the conditions are perfect for rust to form. a boat trip can be a month long easily.... i don't know what to tell you other then that.

did you buy it knowing it had these problems? or can u sue somebody for damages? cause man... with that kind of damage, no body is gonna want that car afterwards unless you replace all the body panels completely.

i know nissan sells each rear quarter panel, up to the door and glass and roof for between 500-1000, it can be done, people on this forum have done it b4.

wow,....just horrible, i feel for ya man, im sure we all do. do you know what happened? was my guess right?

EDIT: actually i just looked again and theres bondo near the rust. this is an old rust job that was supposed to have been repaired. but they only repaired the outside surface and of course it rusted through.

Yah, the first pic where it is rusted right thru, you're going to have to cut and weld for sure. Most of the others can be ground out, filled and repainted (unless it turns out the rust is worse once you've ground things out, then its cut and weld!), but with the fade you have I would recommend a full respray after you've fixed all the rust and dings. I agree with Archeic, looks like there is some previous hal-ass bodywork done that will have to be dealt with. My skyline bodywork experience has been mostly with repairing the front bumper/lip and smaller scrapes/gouges and surface rust. Long long ago my brothers and I refurbished/restored older cars, I rcall lots of cutting/grinding/welding and more grinding. Have fun, I don't envy you.

Haha yeah man this car is a piece of work. For some reason I didnt see all this when I got it. Or it just wasn't as bad. It sucks I know. I saved for ever for this. I would have been better off buying from tiger. Not sure how many owners this car has been threw but I dont think one of them took much care for it.

Do you guys think its worth fixing? I love the car a lot dont get me wrong but Im not just about performance. I like the car to look good and like other people saying thats a nice GTR.

Thanks for looking at my below R grade car

If there is that much rust, especially on that rear corner of the quarter panel, you definitely got A LOT more that you cannot even see. I have one rust spot that was about a third that size and it was only that rust bubble and when I got the car re-done there was more that wasn't visible until the quarter panel was removed. I got my rear quarters for $700 each, well worth the peace of mind, just find a good shop that will install them properly. Get some used front fenders, get the rest of the car dealt with in terms damage and get it repainted. That is about your only hope for a decent looking vehicle. I spent $5000 for new quarters and a full paintjob, so expect at least that. Some will say they can patch weld and cover the damage but I would stay away from that. Also a shop may tell you that they can blend the repaired spots, but given the car is 20 years old and paint discolors, you won't get a consistent color.

It really sucks that it happened to your car, but trust me, its better to get it taken care of right away.

I say, sand the car down. Get rid of that **** paint that the stupid body shop left underneath, then take it to the shop that Sher took his 240. To fix that rust, dents and paint shouldnt be all that much.

Because when you fix that rust on the QP the paint will be darker because it wont have the silver base coat underneath.

Yeah i would start sanding, especially with the all that rust. You cant escape a new paint job anyways so might as well get started while winter around the corner. Good luck!

Fix it so you know how it's been fixed. I would do a full Base coat clear coat paint job. Easier to fix afterwards. Don't be too sad!
                  Good luck!

P.S. If a body shop does all of that = $$$

                    **** Brian,
I was looking at the car when I was buying and it didnt seem THAT bad!
The first pic, you HAVE to cut and weld unless you get a new fender.
Everything else can most definitely ground out and then bondo'd.
As for the Sun damage, that can be dealt with with a re-spray. But do the respray right.
Sand the entire car down, take it to a shop, ask them to use white primer and then
put on the Bayside blue again. Ask Mamer where he got his paint from.

P.S. i did a little bit of the same kind of work on my winter car. It came out ok but thats a beater.
Txt me when you do start any of this, Ill stop by if Iam in town and Iam sure we can bang it out between the two of us.

Agreed with Rony, Brian. Let me know if you're gonna sand 'er down and I'll come help too.

Didn't Mamer get his paint straight from Japan?

Yes I do believe he said he did. Ask him maybe if the shop can scan his car instead of yours and that would save you a ton not having to ship the paint.
