I think if you are keeping it a DD you will want to have ac at some point in the summer. You should buy a used set from someone parting out their ac. (Like me lol) Iv never heard of a ac compressor seizing before. Did they mention how it might of got seized? Did ac work when you got the car?

AC compressors will seize easily if someone put the wrong refrigerant in the system. If you put R134a (pretty much all you can get, at least here in the states) in a R12 system (our cars) it will work for a while and eventually seize. This could also happen if someone did a R134a "conversion" on your R12 system and didn't do it properly, i.e. not evacuating the old stuff out or not adding the right amount of lubricants. Might not be cause of your problem, but I've had it happen to me.

That's very interesting, I was not aware of this. Makes me wonder what the point of fixing the A/C is if it's going to break again.

yea no worries louis... was just gonna say i know a few people who are selling AC pumps as well.. i would think something near $100 would be fair for something like that.. as for time to install it, its easy as hell to do yourself, if u wanted.. heres how:

            1) discharge completely your AC system... the gas in the system is free-on, there should be like a nipple somewhere on one of the hard pipes near the rad, when u press it in, u hear hissing... thats the gas... you need to get that removed into a special container (they sell the containers at most parts stores nappa or canadian tire)

once the gase is out of the system...

            2) loosen the tensioner pulley and remove the belt from under the car (urs is gone alrdy lol)
            3) 2 bolts below and 2 from above for the pump itself, thats how it attaches to the bracket on the engine
            4) 2 electrical connectors to un plug.

then it should be just hanging down with the gas tubes attached.

            5) remove the bolts for the tubes... and they should come right off...

installation is the exact reverse order... 5,4,3,2,1... done. ... maybe an hour or more. worth trying yourself first though, heres a photo of what your looking at so you can see what im talking about:
