I've pulled from the bottom on R32 and S13 before and I dont do it that way anymore. Mostly because of the steering rack lines and shaft are a pain.
I was surprised with that write up that your hoist could go high enough with that rigging system. Mine doesnt . must have it on the 1/2 ton mark (out all the way). I use one of those princess auto adjustable tilt systems and they work quite well. Toss it on the hoist hook and then usually use a couple seatbelts to tie it to the back of the mani and the P/S mount to pump bolt. If you use chains, be careful to unplug the TPS as a lot of guys bust that easy. Also, having a long pry bar or crow bar helps with getting the front diff off the hicas pump and lines. More so when putting it back in. other than that, I think Nissan did a good job for a design point. Eng and trans comes right out and back in pretty easy.
when you use the Princess auto adg tilt puller, I strap the extra seatbelt to the back of the mani to the rear loop to heep it more toward the rear of the engine. using this makes it so i dont have to get under the car with a jack as I can adjust the tilt from the top all on my own. usually takes me 15 min to pull out on my own including hook up. Another 5-10 to get it back in. I think ive pulled these things in every way possible as Ive literally done like 50. this way is my personal stress free way. Even with people watching, drinking beer and not helping, its pretty easy haha
I also got a bung fitting for the rear awd attachment on the back of the trans. i use a pipe wrench to get the line off and quickly toss in the fitting. Less mess this way and i can save the fluid in the trans (if its good of course).
one more thing to add. I keep a small 5" piece of a 2X2 piece of wood cut from a 2X4. i use this behind the engine. After the heater lines are off and out of the way, the wood block fits behind the head between the head and firewall. This way, when I jack up the trans, remove the trans crossmember, I can lower the trans and the engine doesnt sag. Jack doesnt go back under the car till i install the cross member. Never damaged anything ever in case you guys were wondering. It works quite simplyALLEN PETERSEN

right on thanks guys and thanks josh that site is what i will be refering to when i will be doing it. I got the 2 ton engine lift from p auto tonight, and my old man said I can use his garage in a month when the weather warms up a bit, which should give me time to get all my stuff togetehr. Thanks again anything else is always helpful

engine install and removal is simple and smooth if you know the steps. get lots of info first. you're on the right track.
took me about 3.5-4 hours alone to remove. and the same to install alone.
if you have any specific questions, feel free to pm me or post here and ask me. as ive done it quite a few times.Last edited by Bugsly17; 02-19-2011, 03:42 PM.GTRC-OG
