yep. Came off an rb25 na. Same stuff tho. I had a new gasket and o ring so its all fresh prince! If anything, its more reliable than the cooler set up as there are no lines to leak. Less cluttered which is one of the perks. If you need one of those let me know. Or go with that threaded piece. Its personal preference. I changed the location for the filter sandwich and needed the little tiny bit of extra length on my lines, so used what I had kicking around.

I think the reason to leave the oem oil/water heat exchanger in place, is not actually to cool the oil... because as you said once the oil is up to temp, its higher temp then the water... mine is like that too, exactly like you said... instead, it serves as a purpose to help the oil warm up faster actually... the water gets hot LONG before the oil does.... and that heat exchanger helps ur water warm up the oil to proper operating temp... remember,... GT class cars are Touring cars... not track only, thats why nissan put them like that as I understand it.
I would bet the cars that don't run those heat exchangers take longer to reach op-temp for oil.... especially if your gonna run an oil cooler too!Last edited by archaeic_bloke; 02-22-2011, 01:31 AM.The SkyLife Community & News Website --> http://www.skylife4ever.com

yeah that makes sense. Guess I had it kinda backward.
All I know is that I had a GTR like 4 yrs ago. It had one of those oil cooler strut bars like in this pic I googled and in comparison to a good oil cooler, temps were significantly lower after a thrashing, more so oil temp.
I bet the oem cooler may be a better deal to keep for a street car for getting temp up a lil quicker. But we all know not to thrash hard till temps are up anywaysALLEN PETERSEN

Well, like I said, the thing isn't in my way and I don't mind the quicker warm ups. I have new oem hoses so I'm not worried about leaks ($350 worth of under plenum hoses had better be badass).
I don't know.... grr. Take it out or leave it lol I dunno I dunno... My car sees as much street as it will roadcourse.

Bit of a revival. Still dealing with the custom head oil drain stuff. The turbo coolant and swing valve pipes come around the back of the engine, no longer fit in place where the 2 adapters are in the back of the head. So I know the builder told me to beat in my firewall to help things fit better however I lost all anchor points for this pipe rack now and would only be held up by the hoses and pipes connected to it. I"ll get pictures later.
Anyways, this is more towards the guys who had the same mod done. What did you do? Just jimmy it in place and forget about it?Black 1991 GTR. Serious garage stand mantle/parts car.

Well, decided to beat this thing in place (without damaging the pipes of course). Had to shape the mounting brackets some. There is now almost 2" more space from the pipes to the block which means a definite firewall beating on the way.

Ive seen guys run the vacuum pipe and coolant pipe on the top and bottom of the drain fitting(s). They grind that piece that hold them all together to make it easier to manage. With the drain fittings I use, I cut a space out of the firewall and then weld a box into it. not so easy for everyone to do that tho. Id think if you can jimmy the lines above and below those drain fittings so that you may get away without firewall mods. Its gonna be close tho.ALLEN PETERSEN
