  • What is all is needed to run a Tomei Oil pump?

So I am trying to make my bottom end as bullet proof as possible. With that being said i am kinda weary on my original plans to run a n1 oil pump. I dont want to start a debate over the n1 oil pump because it has been covered 90000 times. Basically I am looking into the tomei oversized oil pump. I know its about 7 times as much as the n1 oil pump but with the tomei I would have alot more piece of mind it being the heart of the rb motor. So since the tomei pump flows oil at a higher rate i know there is alot required to run it more than just a drop in like the n1. So in the ways of a bigger sump and restrictors could someone break it down for me what all is required to run the tomei oil pump and options for brands for aftermarket sump or w/e is needed. Thanks!!1

Thats pretty much it buddy.a greddy extension and restrictor should be good for your application.

Good luck with the build hopefully all turns out well

a decent fab shop should be able to custom make you an extended sump, with some basic dimensions.

maybe cam baffles if you're worried about getting excess oil into the catch can.

check your pump to crank tolerances.
        oh hai!

Better off just buying a greddy extension. It would definately cost alot more getting a custom one made with baffles and an extended pickup.

cam baffles are not needed to run the pump..

yea i think i am just going to grab the greddy extension its only around 300 bucks so not too bad. Anyone know the process of getting it welded what is required?

You'll need to remove the stock baffles, get the bottom cut to the size of the extension, welded, install extended pickup ,install greddy baffle and it's done.

The welding will be around $200 give or take. Dont cheap out here. Find a higher end fab shop like a custom motorcycle shop. Tig is a way better welding process that mig.

I think the Tomei pump is overkill if your are not reving high/making mad power and it is a lot of money There are other prevention methods such as Wire your ignition power to a relay that is energized by a secondary oil pressure sender. Pump dies, your engine shuts down and as a bonus your engine won't start till there is oil pressure reducing start up wear. I'm sure you could wire an accu sump to be discharged during that event also. Way cheaper. Less worry about you oil pan dying from Hanging down lower to.

um well i already have a new r34 crank wesico pistons, eagle rods, a pretty built bottom end with a tomei oil pump, a ross harmonic balancer. tomei pon cams and a 6 boost mani with a bw 91-79 i would say i will be making enough power to justify it. dont wana cheap out on an oil pump seeing as its the heart of the motor! thanks tho

you should get the tomei oil restrictor for the block, restrictor for the turbos, head oil drain back mod and if the car is not being used for the track, you could just go with the tomei oilpan baffle and you will be fine.

only track i will be doing is drag. but i am still going to go with the greddy extended sump just for added safety

A jun or nismo oil pump would still be over kill on a mild build but if N1 isn't good enough (lots of guys use them with 2x your power) try a jun or nismo. Cheaper too, like $1000 maybe?

Okay yea its a mild build but i will still be making pretty big power hopefully around 600 with a big single. so not mild power. yea i know lots of ppl run n1 and rips uses them on the 1000hp gtrs but n1s also fail. look at felix! he had rougly 30k+ conservitavely into his motor and its instantly gone thanks to a n1 pump. so i am sorry if i am going over kill on a oil pump when its only the heart of my motor. Yes a jun or nismo would be sufficent but if i am spending the money i want the best. i have never heard of a tomei pump failing ever. why not get the best? didnt know overkill on something so important like a oil pump was a bad thing.

Do it. Get the Tomei. Don't need the justify. You didn't cheap out on any of your other parts (except buying a R32 over an R33 ah ah ah (face of a disappointed father) lol JK. So get the Tomei.
