Ok, for tomei pump. You need an oil pan baffled and restrictor. Tada! $2100 or so and you have a bullet proof pump but it's no dry sump, that pump won't fail but the bearings could still due to oiling.
As for getting the best, why stop at the oil pump? No point in having an ugly chick with nice rack right? Do it all the best if that's what you're after
Get an N1 and save $1400 for some baller wheels.
or get a nismo and save $800 for a baller exhaust.
I dunno.. Would be like a scranny dude with 1 huge arm ;p
That N1 that broke, wasn't it bouncing off the rev limit over 8k rpm?
Anyways, if $1800 isn't a huge dent compared to a functional nismo or greddy or Jun, do it
You got a build thread? I'd like to see this beast 600hp car, jealous already

Yes a jun or nismo would be sufficent but if i am spending the money i want the best. i have never heard of a tomei pump failing ever. why not get the best? didnt know overkill on something so important like a oil pump was a bad thing.Last edited by NismoS-tune; 03-11-2011, 04:27 AM.Black 1991 GTR. No I do not have a build thread yet as my progress is slow as i dont have funds coming in like you do. but as my build progresses more and i have more **** complied i will make a build thread just for you so you can hate all you want. also the tomei oil pump is 1500 not 1800 and felix's n1 that broke was during his break in period so i highly doubt he was bouncing off limiter. as far as your analgy of a scronny dude with a huge arm. um well i perfer to look at it more like a scronny dude with a huge **** investing where it matters and saving money where i can. Reasoning for going with tomei is your oil pump is the heart of your motor i dunno how many times i have to say it!!! yes i could probally get away with an n1 but i dont want to spend the 15k on my motor and have it fail because i cheaped out 1300 to get a cheaper oil pump. I could go jun or nismo for 1000 bucks but compare jun and tomei and the tomei pump is superior in many ways. Also i have heard of jun pumps busting but never once ever heard of a tomei pump failing. so yes it is a little extreme for my build but i believe its a important part of my motor and i am going to invest in the important parts so i dont regret it later. *end rant*
Ah sorry, I don't mean to, I'm french, I translate funny in my head. I'm really just a noob that gets in over his head, which is why I don't own a running GTR for the last 2 years lol. As for tomei, I totally agree about it being the heart which is what I did however I do regret not going dry sump as the cost wasn't far off (from what I did to support the oil pump) as tomei recommends at the least the head restrictor and sump baffle but strongly advice some kind of sump extension (I believe you are going with a greddy or something?). Anyways, wasn't hating, maybe just trying to be funny. Took it too far. Sorry again, I take it all back. But seriously though, the whole paranoid about an N1 pump is also the reason I went crazy on everything, thinking my oem fuel rail might crack, or my #6 might go lean or my fuel tank might starve my pump or my front diff will explode. Now I sit in my garage with **** everywhere for nothing more than a lump of crap on stands for the last 17 months or something.
I love you guys We should be like an internet family, not flamers. I sincerly do appologize for what I've said.
Back on topic? Tomei pump, restrictor, sump baffle, head oil drain. WIN!!

Tomei's don't fail?????
There are a lot of dudes in the dragracing world that have calved $20,000 engines and gone to dry sump specifically because the "unfailable, best pump in the world" split in two. Granted they are in the 1200 to 1400hp zone but still, everything fails at some point.
Just as a reference, I am almost 100% sure that my pump is stock or an N1 (may have Reimax gears, I don't know) and I am running 1.5bar at 8000rpm and 700ish HP. Been 2 full seasons now and I run her up to 8000 all the time, I'm not kind to her. No extended sump either (may have baffling, haven't had the motor apart yet).
If you are patient, you could piece together a dry/wet sump hybrid system with an external 4 stage pump for as little as $1500. Look at used stuff from NASCAR garages, they time it out long before it's all used up and is 1/10th the price from new.
