  • I need some build advice plz!! Blew my Turbos.

Sorry for double posting but I wasn't sure which section to post in.

I've had my 90 GTR for about three years now. No major issues, car has 120xxx kms and is mostly stock minus honeycombs and cat back. Yesterday on a highway drive home, 5th gear hard throttle, It felt like I hit the limiter. I slow down, change lanes and hear a quick rattle and ping as if it a hose clamp fell off and hit the ground. When I tried to get her back up to speed , I notice I have no boost. It wasn't getting over 0 on the stock gauge. NA skyline all the way home. I pulled the front bumper hoping to find a dislodged hose. No go from what I can see. So I've come to the conclusion that someones front end caught my exhaust wheel. Being an optimistic guy, I look at this as an opportunity to do a turbo upgrade. I have a basic mechanical knowledge but I am not 100% confident tackling something like this.

So what I need from you guys is a little guidance as too what I should do, and where to take it.

Here is what I want to get out of my car.

I street the car so responsiveness is more important to me than high hp. Realistically around 400hp is more than enough for me right now, but my end goal would be 450whp, but I don't want to burn bridges, and right now my budget is 5-6k.
I guess what I am asking is what turbos should I be looking for, and what else am I going to need to upgrade/replace , and what shop can I trust to do this work for me. Ive been looking at the 2860 line, but am still unsure as to which is best for me. I have read many of the posts regarding this topic.
I live in Hamilton, and work in Oakville, so it would have to be somewhere in and around the GTA preferably leaning towards the Oakville side even going as far as Niagara Falls.
Any help and advice would be really appreciated.

How could someone's front end get caught in your exhaust wheel? Without messing up your engine first? I don't know your turbo setup but if you blew 1 turbo, you'd still be making 1/2 power on the other.

Sounds like an intake pipe somewhere between the turbos and plenum more than anything. As for 450whp, I'd suggest -7s or R34 N1s, as some guys make over 500whp with them (see luckygtr and evilgtr). 5-6K budget should be good for turbos, labour, tuning and some fueling mods. As for doing the work, take it to a respectable shop which I'm not familiar with in BC.

I sent my engine to a known shop which didn't work out as planned. Delays, no real receipts or paper work saying specs, just emails and an invoice, the list goes on. Still fixing up a few things that were done carelessly. In the end, I paid more than I got I think but whatever.

Choose carefully. I've had lots of bad luck I guess. Still not running, who knows if I'll have the motivation to complete the gong show.

btw nice avatar pic a setup like that cost about 100 000$

N1 turbo are quick spool and they can get tu to 500whp no need to go bigger if thats what u want

        i suggest doing

head stud + head gasket + water pump while your at it and if u wanna 450whp daily beatable 430-450 whp =18-20 psi witout cams
oil pump? no? then dont over rev and be nice wit your car

gt2860rs-7 are 1000$ each in my book so

        2000$ turbo
head gasket + stud + timing belt kit = 700-1000?
        injectors 700 cc - 600-700
        fuel pump 280 lph 350
        electronic boost controler 500

chip nistune + dyno tune 500-600$

job itselft ( really good mecanic are expensive i would say 1300-1500 labour?

total 6550$ if u dont get any deals or what so ever
guyz correct me if im wrong

Install the mechanical stuff yourself, especially if its only turbos and you have a garage. I believe its only nuts and bolts stuff. Working on your own car is very rewarding.

Get the skyline manual. Get Nissan's FAST system.

Post up here when you are stuck.

Don't tackle other stuff yet - if it aint broke don't fix it and 400hp is possible on stock everything. BUT, beware of you clutch, cooling, and tuning situation.

you can go with a manual boost controller for ease of use if you'd like.

          Profit!

i think he is trying to say his exhaust wheel flew off his turbo and off his car and hit the front end of the car behind him. thats not even possible tho lol

um if he isnt mechanically inclined i would not tell him to do the turbos himself. yes they are possible to change with the motor in the car but its a biiitch and a half. Clutch is a big thing. his stock clutch is gna go quick at 450whp and luckygtr as far as oil pump goes he cant just slap a n1 on and fix the problem he needs to solve the crank problem and on a 5000-6000 dollar budget id say leave it and stay away from the limiter! other then that i think luckygtr's list will give you a pretty good idea

By jeeves i do believe your right , i was trying to work out how someones front end got inside the turbo housing inside his engine bay and hit the exhaust turbine. I must be having a sub-optimal day today ! moar coffee !

1500-2000 is a little steep. yes thats what they go for new but hes on a budget and if he looks for deals he will find one. just a few months ago there was a osg twin freshly rebuilt for 1200 i think and a orc tripple plate for 1000. deals can be had but deff gna go over his budget
