  • Porting: Yes/no ? I need to give my answer tomorrow morning!

So yeah...Have anyone seen true before and after dyno graph? to which point is porting worth it? for 1000$ what will I gain?

I only know 2 persons who did porting on their head and it's gtr-dad and mitch32. I spoke with Mitch32 he went straight to porting so he never had a before dyno graph, don't know for gtr-dad.

My machinist swear by porting but I mean.. that's his job, he won,t tell me it's worthless LOL.

I'm sure it's a nice mods but is the head of a RB26 already maxing at 500whp ? isn't more something you do when your at 650+ ?

for your build if your only going for 500 whp and ur on a budget i say forget it. its not only going to help with power gains but it will help with responsiveness. if your going to make 500whp at 20psi well say with porting you may make that same power at 17 or 18psi. but unless you head is built i personally would say dont worry about it

I have the same kind of opinions. However, I've been searching for the past 3 hours on forums and couldn't find a single ACTUAL dyno sheet before and after. so are these claims really thruth or simple myth? I doubt it's myth but maybe it's not AS GOOD as people talk about it.

Eric Hsu from XS Engineering/Cosworth swears by porting and polishing the head. He didn't have any graphs that I can remember. Said power increases occur all across the power band. XS Engineering charged around $4000 to port and polish

Also read a UK article where the guy built 900whp GTR's and said that porting the RB26 head was pointless.

Hope that adds to your confusion.

I personally think its a useless mod unless you going over 1000hp,( my 2cents) but even than the achievement from porting is not that great! Here is the simple port i did on my head!

Read an article in performance mag recently that porting usually isn't necessary unless your going huge cams and valves. Polishing alone on the exhaust side may offer up as much gains as a full port/polish job on a stock(ish) valve train.
