  • Front Diff Play/Clunk Video ???

I bought a different pan and I removed the diff.I just installed it a couple of days ago and I realised that there's a little play between the pinion gear and outer ring gear on the diff.I believe it was doing the same before the diff was removed.

    Video shown bellow.

Ya it sounds a little loose. First off tell me why you took it apart and what parts you changed.
    You can't fix stupid.

I took the diff ,seals and that tube running accross the pan so I could drill the oil drainage holes larger for my tomei baffle.I reassembled everything with new seals and all .I didnt touch the pinion gear so the shims were never removed.

Dont forget that the parts get covered in a think layer of diff oil when its running , that takes up alot of that slack.

I was thinking of that aswell but it seems like a little too much play to me.

          thx cortexx.

Do you have a dial indicator you can check backlash with? thats the only way to tell. But if you didnt remove the pinion and you installed the side shims the way you pulled them out FORSURE! then you shouldnt have any thing different then when you took it apart. Id still check backlash if it was me. But if you dont have the tools then you could assume its all good. Personnaly Id double check. you could be finding a problem early did. but then again Im a little picky.

You could check the pattern as well that would tell you if you have an impending issue.

This site has great info for pattens a setup.
