  • Upgrading fuel system and need some constructive advice on feed and return lines

Hi guys. I've been on the board for a while and generally lurk around and find what I need. I an in the process of installing an aftermarket fuel pump as well as FPR, rail, and larger injectors. Ive read the sticky http://forums.gtrcanada.com/gt-r-tec...stall-diy.html but there was no mention of upgrading lines, etc.

Based on the aforementioned upgrade, have any of you upgraded your lines, i.e., feed and return? Is is needed? The reason I as is because based on http://www.centuryperformance.com/fu...e-spg-140.html (second section down) my feed and return lines are undersized for the HP level I am trying to acheive (425-450ish range).

Anyone able to give a little input?

    Thanks in advance.

You do realize that those recommendations are for low pressure fuel lines, right?

Bigger lines and fittings are needed
Fuel pump, pressure reg, lines/fittings, rail and injectors=success
      R33 GTST RB25DET series 1
      Stock motor, holset HX40, power fc d-jetro, bolt ons, 20psi = 492rwhp 364 lbft

Apologies, I didn't, and thanks for pointing that out. With that said, I suppose there is no reason to upgrade lines, correct? Also, what is the threshold of needing to upgrade the lines? Any ideas?

yessir... i have a tomei high flow fuel pump. stainless lines, phr high flow rail, earls fittings, tomei fpr, and new inj. that would be an ideal start.

Thanks. I'll take a look at what others have done to get an idea on how to tackle this. Being that my target goals were resonably low, I didn't know if they were needed. Thanks again.

You can leave your factory hard lines in place for that power level.

Also I wanted to let everyone know that aeromotive now makes a 340lph (you read that right 340!!!!) pump that does extremely well at high line pressures (see:boost) unlike the walbros. It is just a little under $200. It drops in just like a walbro. I have been watching people test them on V8 forums and they seem to be extremely good.

I'd say the only thing you need to upgrade for your hp level is a fuel pump. The factory lines, rails, and fpr can handle upto 550whp.

                  This is true
I had to double check what car you had. Ony r33 gtst I replaced my fuel pump with a Bosch 044 (awesome pump, little loud because it is wired straight to the battery but the sound of the fuel pressure priming in my lines and fuel rail when I turn the ignition on is kinda cool. After I swapped my walbro 255 got the Bosch 044 and re tune, fuel pressure was up 15psi and got an additional 19 rwhp

To use bigger feed and return lines/ fittings you would probably upgrade your fuel rail too. Just do your pump and your goals should be achieved

Thanks, and not bad re: the Aeromotive pump. I'll look into it. Anyone on here have any feedback or already using it?

Thanks to you as well, r33_gtst. I must say that everyone on here seems to pretty helpful. I've already purchased a FPR, rail, injectors, etc., so it'll all be installed. Now just need a pump.

Factory fuel lines, rail and fpr are fine, even at 500whp. Unless they're rotten. All you need for fuel upgrade is pump and injectors (10.5mm). That way you can spend more elsewhere. If you have lots of loose cash then everything can be changed but really, the stock setup is fine for lots. Really.

All you gotta do is keep fuel above 1/2 tank.

I'm not sure how much rail and lines and fpr costs but day it's $1000, that's big money for tuning or towards turbo.

Spend the money on the bottom end.

I'm running an OEM fuel pump from the TT MK4 Supra, it's made by Denso, flows 290lph with OEM noise levels and reliability. I did a lot of research before I went with that pump but it fit my needs best. It was a breeze to install, and at about 280 dollars, it's fair bit cheaper than the Tomei and Nismo units.

What size stainless lines would be good for around 600-700hp?

I'm at the 700hp mark with stock lines, a Greddy FPR + rail and twin Tomei's in the tank. I also have 1000cc injectors.

I have an A1000 pump and a 4 litre surge tank in the ready to replace them, I will also be using the HICAS lines as fuel lines once I bin the HICAS.
