  • boost issue

so for the past couple days ive been having a boost issue. i washed my engine bay the other day and ever since ive been boosting fine for a bit of driving but then after a while my car will only boost to the line right before +7 (stock boost gauge) and then i turn my car off and let it sit for a bit and it boost all the way up to +7 again and then back down to lets say +3.5. is there such thing as a boost limp mode or is my? or did i mess something up when i washed the engine bay and is now restricting my boost? its using both turbos even when its being restricted it just wont get to full boost. solenoid maybe?

Wastegate actuators sticking maybe? I dont think washing youre engine would be the cause because the issue is reoccuring sporatically. Its not in limp mode either. Limp mode restricts your rpm, not your boost.

Sounds like a boost leak to me.

I'd say either you have a leak (BOV starts leaking when it reaches a certain pressure, wastegates, etc.) or the ECU is pulling boost aka switching to boost knock maps if you're running the stock solenoid.

actually i was informed that your boost solenoid actully can go to a limp mode i limit your boost so just by pass it. i went to can tire it was 2.99 for a box of three vaccum line connectors then just by pass it and see if that helps.

i washed my engine bay and after that i ran on 5 cylinders i guess because im missing one of the center plate screws and water must have gotten in. im thinking that threw a code and is putting my boost into limp mode. how do you by pass the solenoid

Don't bypass the boost control solenoid, fix the problem (find and replace faulty coilpack). If running on 5 cylinders, stock ECU is probably picking it up as knock (high knock count) and switching to knock maps (knock ignition map, knock fuel map, knock boost duty) to protect engine.

What Skym said, if the ECU is limiting boost it's because it's detecting knock, you need to find out why, not bypass what controls your boost...

it misfired for maybe 2 mins not long at all just till the water dried up. it runs perfect now. untill it cuts boost how long does it take for the ecu to clear it self of the issue or can i go in and clear it myself after i bring up the code (if there is one)

If you want to reset the ECU, unplug the battery and press down the brake pedal to drain residual charge.

yeah i already know how to do that but there are things that you cant reset by doing that like codes.

Yeah, if you reset the ecu it will clear it of codes. Check for codes, reset ecu, then check again.
