  • Need some advice on a Clutch.

1991 gtr, kind of stock, i was told early gtr's are push type clutches so 1991 should be considered early? if thats correct then cool if not then let me know.

Im looking for a clutch, something thats not too stiff and has a fairly comfortable city drive. I dont know which clutch does what but im looking for something very dependable and reliable but dont want to spend over 800 after taxes. There are many clutches in that price range but i need something that i wont fry if i want to launch the car racing from light to light and stuff. Nothing too crazy but something that can resist say... 5 launches a week? (If that, but just to be safe) It doesnt have to last forever but at least 5000 kms.

Any links? I searched so many websites i cant seem to find something i can comfortable order and spring times around the corner so shes gatta get a clutch! ...

    Thanks.

I would keep an eye out for a used twin plate Gmax... They can be had pretty cheap(ish). Then, replace the discs and away you go. Plus, then if you wanted to bump up your engine a bit you wouldn't have to worry about your clutch. Two things to note if you go that route:

    1) It will probably cost you ~$1000. Which is a bit above your $800 price tag.

    2) Make sure the pressure plate and intermediate plate are in decent shape... The parts are very hard to find and expensive.

    Best of luck.

It has about 30-40hp in mods, im not looking to upgrade it, for that price range used it seems to be one of those clutches for racing*. I can pay $1000 but buying a used one for a grand then looking for a disk and worrying bout pressure plate and all that, i was hoping to just buy a clutch kit complete without flywheel if i were to spend a grand.

Check out Ottawa clutch co./Bully Clutches. I've heard mixed reviews but might be worth looking into.

How are the nismo twin plates (super coppermix), found one for $400 but it needs a rebuild. Does having a clutch rebuilt stay as reliable as the original stats say they do or close?

Also > I emailed Pat @ bully clutch, Ottawa clutch's catalog is full of numbers and ish i dont understand lol.

Like i said not looking to pay more than 900. Im sure the clutches you guys are suggesting are great but im looking for something to for a temporary durable fix, 5000km's ish by the time it fries again ill be making more money and throw in something serious as i up the power. For now just need something to launch with thats durable!

Also: 1991 GTR's are PUSH TYPE, right?

Check this link out, its bothering me a bit that the price is kind of cheap but does anyone suggest this clutch?

Spec clutches are good. I know a supplier in Southern Alberta. Good budget clutch that can hold the power. They're lightweight and can come in twin setups for more power handling.

I can't speak for them but the supplier I use is genuine and good prices, he's located in alberts. Spec clutches are just cheaper than the expensive ones. You don't need a $3000 clutch when those spec ones are good for the power you have

I daily drive a 6 puck clutch not too bad at all. There is a lot of shudder, but you learn to drive to minimize it after some time. I ran a couple mid 12 second quarter mile times, but if you have high hopes of drag racing this car, you can expect to be breaking other parts once you beef the clutch up. Without the puck style clutch don't even think about drag racing unless you have a twin disc or better. Also converting from push to pull is no big deal. I also went with a lighter flywheel.

PS: Don't waste your money on a single disc clutch that isn't puck style friction surface, the metallic organic discs are waste, I went though 2 or 3 of em before I learned. Stay away from ACT or Centerforce garbage.

I know what ur saying but i dont drag race or track my car ever. I just want that spec stage 3+ for daily usage. I want to be able to launch a couple times a week without worrying bout the clutch going within 10-15000 kms you know?

You have me a solid answer though thats something ive been looking for, one of my posts up there have a link of the clutch im going to get. Its a Spec stage 3+ which supports up to 515 tq. Like i said worried bout launching and frying the clutch. Light to light races quick stuff you know?

I ordered the spec stage 3+ clutch from LMPerformance, you have to watch out for the shipping cause they use UPS, i got nailed with a $115 "brokerage fee" in addition to the shipping cost which was just rediculous

Also the stage 3+ is good for 585ft lb of torque and the rb26 doesnt really have that much torque compared to say a vg30 and a lot of Z guys run single disk clutches without much problems, but then again the TT clutch disk is bigger
