  • Max safe boost for N1 turbos

Just found out my R32 twins are R33 N1's and I was wondering what kind of boost and what kinda setup you guys with N1's are running. I use the car as my daily so on the norm I'm quite conservative on the throttle, that being said I still like to stomp on anything I see fit (and if the other driver is egging me on, lol). I have divorced dumps, divorced downpipe, 3" Fujitsbo catback, Apexi intakes, Yellowjacket coils, fuel pump direct feed rewire, Greddy Emanage Blue, and sadly stock injectors. I'm basically looking for a good track/street setup, I realize that fuel economy is no longer part of the picture, lol. Any input is appreciated.

With stock injectors you're likely to run out of fuel before boost becomes an issue.

Cam tuned my r34 N1's to 383 awhp with Vipec and stock injectors at 17 psi, next step for more power is bigger fuel pump and injectors, cams and retune. You're finding all sorts of goodies!

R33 n1s are bigger. You could run 1.5 bar but you'll need the fuel for them.

I hit 20 psi last night and no problems! Fuel system actually kept up. I did however notice, as I exited the highway and coming up the off ramp she sputtered a bit. Kinda like a misfire at low rpm. I stopped for gas and when I started her up again all was fine. Is it possible I hit some sort of limp mode or fuel cut? Never had that happen in the past, usually it pukes out a turbo. Driving to and from work today it was still fine, no hiccups.

Who tuned your car? Are you running water-meth? I maxed out my -7's at 1.25 bar on shell 91. It was knocking after that.
Dang! You got shocks, pegs... Lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?

I tuned it, basically a street tune. I know pushing this kinda boost is risky without a wide band. Plan on getting one soon, in the meantime I'm down to 15psi to be safe. I have also done the fuel pump rewire and have a brand new fuel filter. Car has roughly 90-100000kms on it, not exactly sure as it has an Impul cluster.

i would stay around 1.5 bar. I would also be wondering about knock. For a good street setup, grab a set of smaller injectors and water meth. Than you dont have to worry about knock and can easily make close or even 400 hp.

400 is basically what I'm going for, next year I'll bump it up to 500. Just need a reliable setup that I can easily tweak for track days.

Those N1s are good for 600hp no problem, a set of 750cc squirters and you can put down 500+atw all day long. I would stay away from water/meth, all it takes is one or two screwups and you fried your motor. Best to have a good fuel supply and add some octane booster for the days you want to push to 24psi. 18psi and a good tune and you should be right on the cusp of 500hp, and a crapload of torque ( the best part ).

Water meth tuned safely is not an issue. A good system set up properly will greatly lower knock, lower combustion temps and provide a slight horse power increase. Whatever you decide to use for your fuel weather it be octane booster or methanol spray is up to you. I run meth in my car and will continue to run meth on my full tune. AEM makes a great system. Good luck!

it really depends if you have a built bottom end and what fuel system you are running

                            with r34 N1s, i made 445whp @ 15,5psi with a stock motor, with street cams, a fuel pump and 720cc injectors

As far as I know the motor is stock, that being said I'm not sure if any internal work has been done. I've come across a lot of good parts on this car including the N1's so it may be possible. So it seems the general thoughts are to upgrade my fuel system with a larger pump and injectors and possibly a meth kit. Some of the numbers you guys are making is basically where I want to be and it doesn't seem that hard to achieve. This is great! Keep it coming, lol!
